About the adventure
In the year 2245, a group of human teenagers are trying to fulfill their school volunteering requirements by participating in a weekly trash clean-up event, but instead of being a beach pick-up or highway pick-up, it’s a space clean-up. Every weekend, you board a hybrid spaceship/garbage truck and zoom through the galaxy grabbing space debris and discarded plastic bottles for volunteer hours. However, when the group gets lost in a galaxy far, far away, they may need to solve a mystery, save the day, and hopefully make it home in time for dinner. Content Warning: This interstellar mystery will contain violence and in the form of laser- and gun-like weapons, physical combat, and ship on ship combat. The story will also feature and discuss a classist tyrannical monarchy and its effects on its constituents. Other sci fi themes that may present themselves: horror, non-blood gore, extraterrestrials, darkness, the vacuousness of space, time dilation.

About me
Hello! I am a GM who loves using Dungeons & Dragons as a guide to create my own RPG games. I love teaching DnD mechanics to new players as well as making tricksy deals with experienced players to make their gameplay as fun as possible!

Creating your character
Since may be a new system for some, we will be creating characters together, but here are some things to think about and come in with an idea of: 1. What role do you think you would be on a spaceship? Pilot who steers the ship? Captain who builds plans? Medic who keeps everyone healthy and safe? Engineer who fixes tech problems? Fighter who mans the ship’s lasers? Something other than those? 2. What is your character’s backstory/personality? Are they protective of their friends? Charming and manipulative? A skilled motivator/leader? A resourceful thief? (This will be for choosing your Improvements, which are like DnD feats) 3. Is there a skill (not the core 6) that you think you would be really good at? It can be tangental to your personality/role (picking pockets, curing wounds, etc) or completely separate (making a delicious lasagna, able to do a split).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be playing using Discord and Roll20!
What Laura Chiarello brings to the table
I will be providing some visual aids, though I tend to be a theatre of the mind kind of GM. I have crafted a mystery and a world for you to explore, though side quests are always welcome. If you are new to Teens in Space or Kids on Bikes mechanics, no worries! I'll be helping you through it!
Homebrew rules
For the sake of simplicity, I will be removing the heat gauge feature from spaceships. Also, instead of everyone having one space ship, we will all build a single ship during our session zero.
