The cold mist curls through the trees as if fleeing something darker, something that watches. You feel him before you see him—a presence in the shadow

About the adventure

All you can see is fog, all you can feel is cold, and all you can hear... is a growl. You scream to your adventuring party but it seems that something else answered the call. A tall man with pale skin and black silk robes appears before you as if riding the wind. You open your mouth but before you can get a word out, his teeth are deep within your neck. As your mind fades away and your vision goes to black. You hear his voice, "Welcome to Barovia". Is this a good game for beginners? -Absolutely! I've already taught a handful of brand new players using this campaign. Some people can be hesitant to play Curse of Strahd as their first game due to its uniqueness compared to most D&D campaigns but this is exactly why I think it's perfect. It starts players off with a much wider experience of what D&D can be. How is Curse of Strahd different from most campaigns? -Curse of Strahd is a classic D&D campaign. It's tone and setting has yet to be matched by any other module released by WOTC. It really explores all of the gothic horror possibilities that D&D often ignores. Are experienced players welcome as well? -100%. Players of all experience levels are welcome. I'm very used to tailoring my campaigns for groups of mixed experience levels. I do have a strict policy on treating beginners with patience and respect. Everyone was new sometime and you can't expect a beginner to understand everything immediately.

About me

🍁Canadian (eh)🍁 🗣️Character Voices🗣️ ❤️Fleshed Out NPC's❤️ 🎵Ambient Music🎵 ⚔️Challenging & Creative Combats⚔️ 🗺️An Embarrassing Amount of Worldbuilding🗺️ Hey, my name's Nick. I've been playing 5e for years with buddies of mine and fell into DMing a while back. I instantly fell in love with it. I love creating rich and fun atmospheres as well as multidimensional characters. I love teaching new players but working with seasoned adventurers is also a blast. I've been a performer all my life and have incredible amounts of energy so I love the theatricality that comes with being a DM. I love the untethered creativity of a player once you really get them into the story. I'm a big believer that good communication and understanding is the key to a perfect campaign. I remember when I started playing and how much I appreciated the patience of the people who taught me so I really highly value patience in my games with those who are new and I understand how scary it is to be a player for the first time and it seems like there's a whole world of information you don't know. I love teaching, DMing, and voice acting.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will happen in every players individual session 0. We will use Roll20 and create a character on there. If it's your first time creating a character, the Roll20 character system is very helpful and informative. I will also be there on a call with you to help in anyway I can.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to create a Discord account and a Roll20 account (both or which are free). We'll use Discord for the voice chat feature and Roll20 will be to play the actual game on. The game will be completely virtual and you won't be required to buy kind of software to play.

What Cone of Cool brings to the table

I'll have everything set up on Roll20 and Discord once you join, if you need any help navigating these I can help with that.

Homebrew rules

I have only one homebrew rule... I never say "no". I love player creativity and I believe it's what creates and feeds the energy and life of the game. So instead of saying "No" to any wild crazy thing you are trying to do, I will instead say "Roll a D100". The DC may be 99 but It will never be impossible.

Safety

How Cone of Cool creates a safe table

I will host individual Session 0s for each player before the first session for character creation, introductions, and to get a list of anything you'd like to see/not see in the campaign.
