About the adventure

What is the Draconis Strain, and what about it connects... ...A derelict science vessel being recovered with its crew in cryo-sleep? ...A dying mining colony with a group of saboteurs trying to speed up the end? ...A science station just this side of the event horizon of a black hole, waiting to be evacuated? Only you can unravel the mystery, and see if anybody survives to warn the galaxy! The Draconis Trilogy is a trio of cinematic adventures published by Free League for the Alien RPG. Developed with pre-generated characters, these adventures link together to teach the system, and explore the themes most commonly encountered through the Alien universe. After the adventures, players are invited to stay on to start a longer campaign-style journey into the unknown to learn why the horror began in the first place. Themes of body horror, corporate abuses, and intraparty conflict are all highly likely, and the campaign should be considered R-rated at a minimum.

About me

Mostly GMing for the last 30 years, I've had more ideas than I could ever get to the table. Hopefully, this will be a chance to get a few of them out of my head! I tend towards story-focused games that incorporate player input and plot threads, ranging from comedic tones to horrific ones. A student of myth, history, and true crime, I try to layer in some of the complexities that show up more in reality than in most published games - the forces of good and evil trend more towards the gray spaces in between, even the worst villains may have the best of motivations, and people are shaped by their pasts as much as their place in the story. I find it's a mindset that helps give a bit more depth to the world, and makes things feel a little more epic when done right.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be primarily pre-generated. Details about the characters, their goals, and motivations will be developed at the beginning of each adventure. Due to the potentially high-lethality nature of the setting, it's recommended that you not get too deeply attached.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A basic understanding of the Alien RPG or Year Zero engine is helpful, but not necessary. This game is based off of the published cinematic adventure trilogy, and progresses into a more in-depth campaign from there, making it an excellent way to learn the basics. The ability to play through Foundry is necessary, as well as the ability to handle voice-chat through Discord. A mic/headset is *strongly* recommended.

What Jason Leisemann brings to the table

I am setting up the adventures in Foundry and will have the space and resources available. I also provide the key rulebook through a Demiplane content share for those who want to learn more about the system.

How Jason Leisemann creates a safe table

At session 0, content limits and safety tools will be discussed. Chat is available for anybody to discuss events in the game, and the GM is available for private discussion of anything somebody wants kept anonymous. Listed content limitations based off of themes from the films, and will remain in the R-rating range.
