About the adventure

*** Your travel on the forsaken road, moss and frost lining the crumbled cobblestone, has been perilous. The pine trees sway in the cold wind like scarecrows watching you stumble on the trail. Along the way you encountered a two-headed troll, and three ghouls feasting on the corpse of some petty noble who dared to trek too deep into the wood. Behind you, the howls of wolves and cawing of crows keep your feet trudging forward despite the gnawing hunger in your belly and aches in your shins. Your map indicates you should have arrived by now but the post signs have been defiled. The only sign that you are near civilization are the corpses, swinging from frayed rope tied around great oaks. Hopefully but one more night on the road. Finally you see the smoke rising from chimneys of farmsteads, engulfed in gloom, around the walls. The city of Vollendorf stands before you and the all the hospitality of the Unterland. The gate guards are crude, vulgar men who harass you for some silver coins, but eventually you force your way through the crowd and stagger through the cramped alleys of Vollendorf. Now all you have to do is find that tavern that is recruiting aspiring monster hunters ~ and then your real journey will begin. An altruistic adventurer seems fine enough on paper, but real adventurers need to eat, to upgrade their gear, and to make a little profit. So you've decided to join a Monster Hunting Guild and practice your craft. You understand the risks with your line of work, but your mind is made up. You only hope you don't live to regret your decision. *** Grim Hollow is an anthology campaign, based around a monster hunting guild, and divided into 15 distinct chapters spanning level 3 to level 13. Some quests come from the Lairs of Etharis campaign, where others are original adventures, or inspired by other 3rd party content such as Lord of the Rings 5E or MCDM adventures. Each adventure spans roughly 3-10 sessions and begins with a job assignment. Some may see your group delving into ancient ruins, or investing mysterious occurrences in a village, where others may be a straight monster hunt for ingredients. After you finish preparations at the Guild Hall, the quest begins. You never know exactly what you're in for, but in the world of Etharis you must be prepared for anything... In the event you survive, you can reinvest your earnings into improving your weapon, or potion-crafting, or hiring a mentor to improve your skills, or drink, or whatever else helps through the dark nights. It's your money, just make sure you have enough for a potion of healing for the next job. If there's one thing for certain - Monster Hunting isn't going anywhere.

How Dawn creates a safe table

The whole point of a grimdark setting is to be a beacon of light in the middle of a sea of shadow. There are unsettling, dark, and horrific elements, but player safety and fun is my #1 priority. We will use Monte Cook's Consent in Gaming Checklist, as well as mid-session breaks, to ensure that everyone is having a fun time!
