About the adventure
Kunlun, the most powerful sect in the Jianghu, has sent out a call to the Wulin: let the greatest cultivators and martial artists join the Trials of Immortal Ascension, those who prevail shall take their place within the ranks of Kunlun. You have been selected to represent your sect in the trials, power and honor awaits should you prevail, but failure could mean death. Do you have what it takes to stand with the greatest warriors the Wulin has ever seen? * Set in a high-fantasy version of ancient China where gods, spirits, and monsters walk the earth, where martial artists can perform feats of superhuman abilities, you play as one such Cultivator - or Xia - and is a member of your own sect where external forces eventually prompt you to set out into the Jianghu, be it in pursuit of power, revenge, justice, or love. This game will feature a balance of roleplaying and combat, as well as the collaborative worldbuilding inherent to Daggerheart.

About me
Hello there, I'm Nick (he/they) and I’ve been playing TTRPGs for about 10 years now (and GMing for around 6). I started out with D&D but have branched out to many other systems over the years; my favorites are any given Powered by the Apocalypse games, Alien RPG, Kids on Bikes, and Outgunned. I have a background in Creative Writing, Film and Television, and was part of my university's Drama society, which is another way of saying I love doing funny voices whenever I get the chance. I'm an avid film watcher and book reader and am not picky about the genres, though horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and tragedy rank near the top. I also take a lot of inspiration from all the stories I’ve consumed as inspiration for my games. If you play with me, you can expect engaging social encounters, dramatic roleplay moments, and dangerous combat. I'm currently a freelance TTRPG writer, script writer, and a professional Game Master for Nightshade Tavern, a Malaysian-based TTRPG group that focuses on making TTRPG as accessible for new people as possible. I've written for Daylight Publications and Unbreakable, and a film called the Screaming Sky (currently on Netflix Malaysia).

Creating your character
Character creation will happen during our Session 0 (which will be free). In the meantime, feel free to think about your character concepts; the only restriction is that each of you are members of a martial arts sect (doesn't have to be the same one; the premise will bring you all together regardless).

Have a discord and roll20 account as well a Demiplane as the character sheets will be pulled from there into roll20
What Nicky Chong brings to the table
We will be using Discord for Voice Chat and is where I will put ambient music in. Character Sheets and maps will be through Roll20. For the mot part the game will be Theater of the Mind but for certain combat scenarios I will prepare maps. I am a big proponent of the "Yes, and" and "No, but" mentality of improv and so I encourage my players to always offer their input for what they believe will make for fun, interesting and dramatic storytelling and character moments. The worst I'll do is say 'that doesn't quite fit, what if we [alter slightly to keep it in tone and consistent with the story]. I am also a Rule of Cool GM so go wild, leave it to me to rein you in if it goes too far or too beyond the scope of plausible suspension of disbelief or genre conventions.
Homebrew rules
As this is a wuxia-inspired setting, each Class and Species in the game will be reflavored to more reflect that; this will be done during Session 0.

How Nicky Chong creates a safe table
