About the adventure

The great, sprawling empires of Fahn, Ohrn, and Khih—once the shimmering pinnacles of Ertha’s long-forgotten height—have been reduced to dust and bone. They fell during the Great Ebb, a cataclysm wrought by an enigmatic necromancer and his mindless, sycophant hordes, whose very presence poisoned the winds of destiny. Though that dark sorcerer was cast down, his shadow lingers; for three centuries, the world has remained a fractured thing, a mosaic of ruin bled dry by the petty cruelties of minor lords and the mindless violence of warlords. Deep within the Hinterlands, where the primal soul of nature has reclaimed the once-proud spires of Fahn, the wilderness stretches toward a horizon without end. Yet, hidden in the green gloom, there remain sanctuaries—silent repositories of an age of reason and sorcerous might. Only the truly daring, those possessed of a restless spirit and the steel to match, may traverse these chaotic wilds to unearth the ancient knowledge and terrible strength of those bygone, golden eras.

About me

It all started in the summer of ’82 when my friends older brother introduced us to AD&D. We played a few times a week that summer. At one point our characters ended up going through a strange portal that deposited us in the middle of the apocalyptic nightmare of Gamma World, courtesy of the rules presented in the DMG. From that point on I had a itch that needed to be scratch. I asked for D&D books that Christmas the following year, but my mom not really knowing much about it asked at the local hardware store that sold books, dice and miniatures what she should buy and I ended up with the red Moldvay box set. I was disappointed at first, but I worked with what I had and began running adventures for my small circle of friends. I was already an avid reader, but D&D opened me up to so many more authors. Tolkien was a given, but Moorcock, Guin, Lieber and Zelazny followed, to name only a few. As I grew older, D&D turned Gamma World, Star Frontiers, Cyberpunk (before 2020). Eventually dipping my toes in the waters of horror with Call of Cthulhu and then the various titles White Wolf produced, mainly Vampire the Masquerade, where my favorite alter ego was Martin Zantosa of Clan Tzimisce. Through middle school, high school and a little bit into college, every Saturday morning I met my friends at a local comic bookstore and we retired into the basement and played into the early evening. I took a hiatus of sorts, got married and had a few children, but that itch still needed to be scratched. My wife found a local comic shop and I started a couple of groups there and did the on-line thing with Roll20 for a few years. I got back into 1st edition AD&D but wet my toes in some rules lite sword and sorcery games, like Barbarians of Lemuria. OSR games have caught my eye, especially Labyrinth Lord. I don’t know if there is something makes me different from the rest of the potential dungeon masters out there. I think in the end we are all just trying to have a good time and enjoy themselves. Me personally, if I can get a group of people wrapped up in a world I’ve created and forget about the stressful world around them for a little while, then I’ve succeeded.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation is short and sweet and we will be using the Labyrinth Lord Classic Edition rules, with a few house rules.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you’ll really need to join us is a Discord and a Roll20 account. We’ll be using those for everything, so as long as you have both set up, you’re good to go!

What Timothy brings to the table

I’ve been behind the screen for a long time, and honestly, I’ve reached the point where I just want to relax and enjoy the story. My priority is making sure the game is a fun, low-stress escape for my players, too. If we’re all enjoying ourselves, that’s a win in my book.

Homebrew rules

For Abilities, I don’t want anyone stuck playing a character with nothing but 3s. To keep things interesting, roll 4d6 six times and drop the lowest die from each set. Once you have your six scores, feel free to assign them to whichever abilities you like. When it comes to Classes, we’re using the basic Labyrinth Lord options, but I’m also opening up Tieflings and Rangers—I can get you the rules for those if you’re interested. Hit Points are standard: just roll your class die and add your Constitution bonus. As for Gear, let’s assume you already have your starting essentials—armor, weapons, spellbooks, and so on. Instead of tracking every copper for basic kit, roll for "pocket change" to buy flavor items, like a silver-plated dagger or a trusty horse. We’ll be using the Skills system from the Rules Cyclopedia to round things out. Finally, please write a paragraph or two about your character. Tell me about their background, what drives them to adventure, and any enemies they might have made along the way. I really want to give your characters some depth!

Safety

How Timothy creates a safe table

I’ll admit, this is a new one for me—I’ve never really had to address this in a gaming group before. But I want to be clear: I would never intentionally make anyone uncomfortable during a session. I’m in this for the relaxation and the fun, and I truly believe that if my players aren't having a great time alongside me, then the game isn't a success.
