About the adventure

After mysteriously waking up in an elegant living space, a doctor informs you of the research project that you’ve agreed to help with. Only problem is, you have no recollection of where you are, how you arrived, or even your own name. Slowly, you discover you’re in some facility called Adroma and you’ve started to develop some special powers. But surely, the doctor cannot be trusted? What is he hiding? You, along with the other patients with powers, will try to uncover the doctor’s secrets, recall all of your memories, and try to escape. Will you survive? This game will have a dystopian apocalyptic science fiction setting, and will encompass a world in which intelligent alien life may exist. It also begs the question, other than those in Adroma, did any other humans survive? And is anyone looking for you? We will be using Cortex RPG to run this game. This TTRPG is great for high-roleplay games, but we will still engage in combat here and there. If you’ve never played Cortex before, don’t worry! During Session 0 we will go over how to play, how to build characters, and a test run of gameplay.

About me

Hello friends! I’ve been a Game Master for smaller games of 4-6 players for about 5 years. My favorite aspect of being a GM is world-building and character creation. Thus, I love homebrew content and homebrew worlds. The stories I tell are not just mine, they are told by the players as well. If you would love an action-packed fantasy adventure, with intricate roleplay opportunities, and a story that connects to your character’s backstory, I’m the Game Master for you!

Character creation

Creating your character

After signing up for the campaign, arrive to Session 0 ready to learn with a computer and headphones. (If you only have mobile device, we can try to make it work). We will build our characters together and go over how gameplay works and rules for the game. If you have experience playing Cortex, this Session 0 is still important because every game of Cortex is different, and designed specifically for the game being played. Players do NOT need to read, review, or buy any content to play this game. I will provide all source materials for Cortex RPG, world information, and character building instructions.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players need to prepare is patience, a computer, a mic, and a set of headphones. Everything else will be explained and given to players at the start of Session 0.

What Caralight brings to the table

I will bring detailed maps, well rounded NPCs to interact with, and a free interactive and customizable character sheets on Play Role. If there is no map designed, I will describe each area the characters are in through theater of the mind, and make sure to include items and objects characters can interact with. My play style is usually more wacky and imaginative, but for this game I will attempt to play more seriously. I typically like to Yes, And when players come up with cool ideas for their roleplay or dice tests. We will have ambient music and sound effects from Voice Mod, as well as some microphone voice editing to distinguish certain NPCs.

Homebrew rules

We will be using Cortex Prime RPG, however, I've added a few mods and additional mechanics to the game to simplify it. Everything will be discussed during session 0.

Safety

How Caralight creates a safe table

This game will encompass these content warnings: Memory Wiping, Memory Erasure, Mind Control, Aliens, Manipulation, Death, Character Death, Hospital Terminology and Tools, Needles, Syringes, Guns and Weaponry, AI Robots, Machines, and being stuck on a Spaceship. While not the main genre, there will be horror aspects throughout the game. Most of the content warnings above will be described with Theater of the Mind. There will be little to no visual depictions of bodies. However, there may be sound effects used with Voice Mod. During session 0, we will go over Lines and Veils, and have a short Luxton Technique Discussion to make sure we don’t discuss any triggers or potential ones. If players are ever uncomfortable at any point, we will use X, N, and O cards via messages. After each session, we will have a short Aftercare segment to make sure there is no Bleed between players and characters. The game is heavily inspired by the Sci-Fi thriller TAU, and the mystery thriller tv show The OA. Neither of them need to be watched before playing, but I highly recommend watching them for fun!
