About the adventure
Dr. Candlewick has returned from England after the Great War and is opening his ancestral manor to a group of Pathetic Children, orphans with freakish powers but no past or family. The world is only too happy to shove you into his care and wash its hands of you. Strangers brought together not entirely by your choice under Candlewick’s banner, what will you plan seated at his round table? What will you do when old memories and new wounds try to reshape your very being? And what alliances will you make and what promises will you keep in your quest for a future of your own making? References and themes: Arthuriana (including but not limited to Geoffrey of Monmouth, Malory, TH White), post-WW1 politics, small town insularity, family secrets, moral dilemmas, coming of age. Intended for beginners to Monsters and Other Childish Things; you do not need to know the system and pregenerated characters are available. Your first session and any group session 0/retrenching will also be free. Welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC people!

About me
I have been a GM for almost a decade because I love off-the-beaten-path systems and concepts. I prefer frameworks, not hard rules, and will work with you to bring a concept to life and connect you to other players in the game for a cohesive and creative experience!

Creating your character
Character creation will be according to the rules of Dreadful Secrets of Candlewick Manor, along with material from Monsters & Other Childish Things, and will be discussed individually over a Discord call or text exchange and then finalized in session 0. Beginning characters new for this campaign please!

How Gal creates a safe table
There are a *lot* of content warnings for this game due to its themes and inspirations and not all of them may come up, but even TH White's Once and Future King, the arguably most gentle version of King Arthur's end, has its share of grimness. I still want to strike a balance between the source material and a careful and considerate way to work with the players. With that in mind, however, there are some things in that content list that cannot be excluded considering the game premise and setting as well as inspirations. Please keep this in mind when considering sign-up. There will be a link to the Lines and Veils document in the Google Drive document for players to fill out as a group, you do not need to note it individually. Session 0 will detail themes and issues that are likely to be part of the game, elaborating on the content warnings and encouraging you to ask questions as well as figuring out what to downplay or what can be skipped. While the setting is post-World War 1, you as the PCs do not need to have or uphold standards of the time (are in fact actively encouraged not to match the more bigoted ones) and session 0s will be used to figure out the group framework on how to narratively navigate the setting in a constructive and supportive way.
