About the adventure

IMPORTANT: This game is Text-Based! We will play entirely using text rather than voice in structured weekly sessions! This is a campaign introducing those with a taste for Greek Myth to a system built around it! Aegean is a d10 Dice Pool game where the influence of the gods is felt with every move, risk, and challenge for glory! You will play as your very own Greek Hero of myth! Similar to the great legends such as Heracles, Theseus, and Oedipus- okay maybe not that last one. Prometheus has given a dark and horrific foresight to the Olympians, now free from his bonds by Heracles. He said that a titan would once again rise from Tartarus and attempt to reclaim the world... not only that, but all the Cosmos. Hyperion, the Titan of Firmament. The only thing that could prevent this would be the titan's very own Grandson. This grandson was soon found, as it happened. The son of King Aradius and the graceful Demeter, eldest among the children of Hyperion. Archaeon, child of the seasons, champion to defeat the Titan of Heaven. But Archaeon is young, and needful of guidance and allies! The greatest heroes of the age... you! Join as a party, travel along the coasts of Ancient Greece, facing down monsters and tyrants and evils, on your path to join with Archaeon, and escort him to the dark prison of Prometheus, so that he may fulfill his destiny, and you may fulfill yours! As you explore this world, you will filter money and glory back to Aradius' Polis of Archaea, which will enrich you in return! This quest will take you from the seas of the Aegean to the depths of Tartarus, to the very heights of Olympus! Will you stand and fight for the gods?! (Archaeon stands out as an important NPC and ally to the heroes, but is in no way a DMPC. Though he is the 'legendary hero', he will be secondary to your exploits and allow you to make the decisions on solving problems!) (Also, secondary note, this is using Hades familial structure as you might have noticed, what with Demeter being the daughter of Hyperion here. This campaign will be tonally similar, and frankly I enjoy Hades reinterpretation of the majority of the Greek Pantheon!)

About me

Hii! I'm Vivian. When I was a kid, I used to draw comics and make up characters, and with my friends, build worlds. Since my youth, I've always been a creative, a storyteller, and a bit of a rat. I suppose that I've been running games for well over a decade, though my first experience with real meaty gameplay was just seven years ago, when I ran my first session of D&D for my online group. I could say it was perfect, but it wasn't. That first campaign lasted two or so years, and while clunky and imperfect, it was mine. It was my first true campaign, and with that group, I continued GMing. I became a terminal forever-DM, and have spent far more than a reasonable amount of time studying, practicing, and honing my craft. My shelf of books is overflowing, my collection of wisdom and practiced techniques an armory unending, and my amount of insane nonsensical homebrew and game design documents unsettling. I'm a storyteller first, an artist second, a writer third, and an enjoyer of Little Caesar's Lunch Special (Half a deep deep dish with a 20 oz soda! for just 8 dollars) fourth, but coming in a few places behind that, I consider myself an adequate, if not exceptional, Gamemaster... I mean, my players say I'm the best GM either, and I won't call them liars to their faces!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created during a sweet and savory Session 0, we'll start with the concepts for each character and work through them as I explain the relevant rules. Best you come in with some kind of concept, something to chat with the other players before the game! The characters will be meet through an introductory portion of the first session. I encourage players to talk about heroes before the game and during this opening segment, so that possible relationships can be forged.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll only need a Forge-VTT account, as well as a discord account. You'll be using Forge for most, if not all, gameplay. Discord is for gathering up the players, and the audio channels will be used for music and ambiences.

What Roxanne brings to the table

You'll get your very own character token, drawn by myself. There will be music, ambience, and other presentational features! A discord server hosted for you to talk about your heroes, exploits, and the game, will be up and running for you to join. The game will be run as close to the rules as possible, with some fiat here and there to make up for any chinks in its heel.

Homebrew rules

I will allow the use of certain special lineage features. The book provides special talents for Centaurs and Nymphs and the like, which will be available to players, if you don't want to play a human. Yes, you can be a satyr, lampad, cyclops, anything from Greek Myth that seems reasonable as a lineage. I am even up for working with you on specialized character ideas not covered by the basic rules, including children of non-olympian deities.

Safety

How Roxanne creates a safe table

Before the session starts properly, if any relevant problematic topics might come into the game, I will discuss them openly. Despite this being set in the legendarily brutal, misogynistic, gorey, lewd, and all-together horrific age of heroes, we need not touch on any of those topics, I intend to keep things a bit lighter in tone, more akin to Hades than God of War. However, I would be doing a disservice to the setting to leave the world squeaky clean, reference the Content Warnings and consider the context of the Greek Myths you've read to understand such topics in the world of Ancient Hellas. As for safety tools, I always offer an X-Card situation, and can cut difficult to deal with content at the drop of a hat.
