About the adventure

Welcome to CAIN, exorcist. The year is 2007. You are a living weapon, enlisted as part of an extra governmental organization that protects the populace from their own demons made manifest. You will be stationed deep within the Appalachian mountains for your upcoming excursions. Recently, there has been a larger mass of SINs popping up within these old woods. Luckily for you, and for us, you have the skills to deal with that. With your psychic powers and intense training, you should be fully prepared for any situation a SIN may throw at you. Most likely. Death is just as likely an option. This is a CAIN campaign intended to go all the way to CAT 5 and beyond. It is both beginner and experienced player friendly, and will start with some easy hunts to cover the basics of CAIN, showing both the intense, brutal combat, and the investigative mystery aspects of the system itself. While the game is meant to be brutal, I have in place systems for being able to continue the campaign even if you may lose a character. I draw everything in this campaign by hand, save for backgrounds. I do not touch AI, not for the art or for the writing process. Additionally, I will offer a discount of 50% on my commissions for exorcists in my game who would like a character portrait, which I will edit to fit design changes to your character free of charge.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session 0 we will sit down and look through the corebook and expansions together, in which I will provide you with a link to an editable sheet you can keep track of your character on. We will start at CAT 1, or level 1, and move from there.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

For the game we will be using Discord, the link of which will be sent to you when you are cleared for the game. The VTT will be through ForgeVTT, so making an account to be prepared for that is also ideal. Lastly, unless you are interested in my making one for you, having a halfbody portrait of your exorcist would be greatly appreciated. As another preparation, but more of a mental one, if you do not yet have experience with CAIN. It is a very brutal game, and the odds are stacked against you. I run CAIN in a very fair way where everyone gets equal amounts of punishment, but if the dice say you die, you may end up dying. Luckily, you do have a limited number of revives, but it is highly recommended you try not to get TOO attached to your character.

What Noah brings to the table

I like to have a fun, entertaining table with my players. I'm always willing to run with bits or do character voices for my characters, and I think, especially in a game such as CAIN, Rule of Cool is above anything else. I also, as mentioned, will provide any DM side art, all hand drawn for these games. As stated, no AI will be used, and I like to make something special with my art.

Homebrew rules

I use the books rules as a base, but am very willing to break them for Rule of Cool. Besides that, I am a homebrew creator, and will be using some of my own homebrew in this game, although likely not much in the first couple sessions.

Safety

How Noah creates a safe table

CAIN as a game is game intrinsically based around the concept of trauma and what results of it, that being the monsters you fight themselves. It does not pull its punches in what can happen to you, and as such, the game deals with both a lot of dark subjects, as well as hyper violence. During interviews, I will individually talk to each one of you and have you list your lines and veils so I know which things should not be crossed. Even then, I keep my CAIN games on the lighter side, but that doesn't mean that if I treat on any ground that makes you uncomfortable, you shouldn't stop me. X, N, and O's can be messaged to me at any time and I will see them and slow down accordingly, as well as will take 1-2 small breaks mid session for checkups.
