About the adventure
Icewind Dale is besieged by eternal winter, its inhabitants eking out a life in the frozen wastes. You find yourselves in the Ten Towns, looking for work, food and shelter. But this winter is not natural. Something bigger lurks in the blizzards. You will battle the elements, avalanches and blizzards as you travel around Icewind Dale in an attempt to help the inhabitants survive, and ultimately bring an end to the eternal winter. You'll encounter human sacrifice, plots to destroy the Ten Towns, Dragons, lost magics and mythical creatures beyond reconning. That is assuming you survive the frostbite, avalanches, blizzards and hungry creatures of the wastes. Wrap up warm.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Oh, the adventures I have had! I have been playing and DM'ing D&D for over 30 years, and am a RedBox starter. I run a YouTube channel specifically to support other DMs running games using Foundry VTT, automations and add-on Modules, and have been building a full module for the Curse of Strahd campaign, which I am currently also running for an international group. I've been running games on Foundry for 18 months, but previously on Above VTT, and a LOT of face-to-face. I've run many games specifically aimed at new players to help them get started with this amazing hobby, but also have my own personal group of friends that I run for. Most of my experience is in running pre-made adventures, offering my own updates and twists to suit the player party.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will be part of Session zero, so you don't need to prepare anything, except maybe a concept of what you would like to play. Some rules to be aware of for character creation: - 2024 PHB & Tasha's - - Stats are 4d6, keep highest 3. Arrange to suit. - You can choose to ditch your stats to re-roll them, once. - No Multi-classing (let everyone shine!) During (FREE) session zero everyone will roll their stats, and decide Species and Classes as a group - so you can get the balance of skills you want. And you'll discuss your backgrounds and any previous relationships. This will ensure session 1 starts off smoothly.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Games are hosted through Foundry VTT. You do not need an account or special software for this - you will access the platform through your usual internet browser. A full screen monitor is strongly recommended to ensure you get the best out of the game - mobile phones are not suitable for this. Voice communications are handled through Discord, and players will be invited to join my Discord server as a Start Playing Games member, and assigned to your group with the other players. This means that you will require a Discord username. Links to join the Foundry game itself will be distributed through Discord, and we utilise a voice channel to communicate during each session. To summarise, you will need: - Internet connection and browser (not mobile phone) - Discord account - Microphone and speakers Nothing else is needed, except a desire to play (and warm clothing...)
What ClayGolem brings to the table
We will be playing RAW (Rules as Written) as the default. DM's ruling in final during sessions, but happy to discuss outside of session if we think a rules needs a bit of a tweak. Rule of Cool trumps all, which means we will bend to rules if it helps make a better story, or is just, you know, cool! Your game will include fully interactable 2D maps, effects and sounds - so yes, you will get to see your character's arrow fly toward the enemy, or that magic shield encompassing the wizard. The people you meet will have their own portrait artwork, as will your own characters, to help you visualise them more clearly. We're here to have fun, so don't expect a very serious group - the character's adventures may be serious, with serious consequences, but players can expect some humour and silliness. Important NPCs (the people you meet that are not players) have their own quirks, mannerisms and voices to distinguish them from the general population, and make interactions more memorable. I am not, however, a professional voice actor, so expect a little ridiculousness. And as we are using Foundry VTT, you will of course be shown how to use that platform to get the most enjoyment from the game.
Homebrew rules
We will not be using an Homebrew Rules. However, Rule of Cool may over-ride standard rules if it makes sense and is entertaining.

Safety
How ClayGolem creates a safe table
My games are a safe-space for all, and activity that infringes on the wellbeing of other players will be addressed. We use Discord for voice communication in the game, but includes a private channel if players wish to discuss any concerns they may have. You will also have access to send a Direct Message to myself if a problem arises, so issues can be addressed immediately, and anonymously. As part of the session 0, we will talk about boundaries and expectations for behaviour and content. You will be asked to send a private message to myself with any areas, concerns or triggers that you may have, so that I can incorporate them in the groups "contract" - a short document outlining the agreed rules for the group, and any prohibited content/behaviour. That list already includes real-world racism, sexism, politics, sexual content, extreme torture, etc. You should be aware that this adventure campaign make references to human sacrifice and murder.
