About the adventure

Apocalypse Riders is a western-themed Daggerheart game with a hefty dose of marinara added in. Mixing the spaghetti western with Daggerheart's Drylands campaign frame, this beginner-friendly game pits the titans of industry - the mining concerns harvesting the essentia that keeps the world running - against the titans of the old gods, risen to defend motherlodes of the stuff. This game will explore themes around the price of civilization, the price of conservation, and finding a balance between them. Take Princess Mononoke, Shadow of the Colossus, and a Fistful of Dollars and toss them in a blender. Then make some dice out of the fine powder that results, and get to the table!

About me

Mostly GMing for the last 30 years, I've had more ideas than I could ever get to the table. Hopefully, this will be a chance to get a few of them out of my head! I tend towards story-focused games that incorporate player input and plot threads, ranging from comedic tones to horrific ones. A student of myth, history, and true crime, I try to layer in some of the complexities that show up more in reality than in most published games - the forces of good and evil trend more towards the gray spaces in between, even the worst villains may have the best of motivations, and people are shaped by their pasts as much as their place in the story. I find it's a mindset that helps give a bit more depth to the world, and makes things feel a little more epic when done right.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created at the first session, along with significant portions of the setting. Characters will start at Level 1, with the campaign expected to use Void resources as well as core Daggerheart material.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Free accounts on Discord and the Forge will be necessary, and links will be provided to these spaces. Please be ready for voice chat during the game, and to run a game through Foundry resources.

What Jason Leisemann brings to the table

I will set up the play space and provide music, art, and an in depth familiarity with the western genre that will allow for the game to do more than just hunting down giant monsters and blowing them apart. Not that you won't do that too. I'm a big fan of blowing apart giant monsters. Just, y'know, robber barons and companies trying to extract every scrap of value from the land and the people working it regardless of consequences are a lot *like* giant monsters.

Safety

How Jason Leisemann creates a safe table

Lines and Veils will be discussed at Session 0 along with setting details and character building. The GM is also available during and after games to deal with concerns privately, or as a group, as appropriate to a given situation. My job is to provide a place to enjoy the game. Hard to do that if you don't feel comfortable in that place.
