About the adventure
In the world of Humblewood, the rhythms of nature are sacred, and the balance between the "Birdfolk" of the canopy and the "Humblefolk" of the forest floor has endured for generations. But something has changed. The Scorch - a mysterious and terrifying spreading of fire and ash - is consuming the woods, driving ancient elemental forces into a frenzy and displacing entire villages. Whether you are a brave Luma wizard seeking lost arcane secrets, a stoic Cervan guardian protecting your kin, or a nimble Mapach rogue looking for opportunity in the chaos, the Wood needs you. ***** This is a campaign of wonder, community, and courage. While there are moments of high-stakes combat and dark mystery, the heart of Humblewood lies in its cozy-yet-consequential atmosphere. The Theme: Survival against the elements and the strength found in unlikely friendships. The Vibe: High-fantasy heroism mixed with "cottagecore" aesthetics. We’ll experience the beauty of the forest just as often as we face its dangers. The Stakes: You aren't just fighting for gold; you’re fighting for your home, your nest, and the very future of the Wood. ***** This campaign is new-player friendly - no experience needed, just a willingness to laugh, explore, and get a little weird. Before we begin, we’ll have a free, 3-hour Session Zero to introduce the rules, build characters, and set the tone. If you’re joining after the adventure is already underway, you’ll get your own free, 90-minute catch-up session to create your character and weave them into the story so you can jump right in without missing a beat.

About me
Hello! I'm an experienced Game Master with a passion for guiding players through immersive and unforgettable tabletop role-playing experiences. I've successfully run multi-year online campaigns in settings like the Forgotten Realms and Humblewood, and have also led numerous in-person one-shots. I love introducing new players to the hobby and am particularly excited about the Daggerheart system, which I'll soon be running in an upcoming in-person campaign. I genuinely enjoy teaching the ropes and believe I'm a great choice for anyone looking to dive into the world of TTRPGs!

Creating your character
We will build our heroes from scratch together during a free three-hour Session 0 (or a 90-minute catch-up for those joining later) using Alchemy RPG to ensure everyone is ready for the Wood. You can create your character using the 2014 or 2024 Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, or the Humblewood sourcebook, which I will provide for you. We will start at level 1 to experience your character's full journey, and we'll handle all stat generation and mechanical choices during our meeting so you don't need to bring anything but your initial concepts and a desire for adventure.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a Discord account to join our community Discord server where the voice/video chat will take place. You'll also need an account on alchemyrpg.com, which is where we'll be running the game.
What Ethan brings to the table
In this game, you'll see me break out all the stops when it comes to the Virtual Tabletop (VTT) of my choice, Alchemy. You'll see vibrant scenes come to life, allowing you to immerse yourself in the setting and story. You'll hear music built right into the game, with the ability to control how loud each piece is independently. You'll experience what it's like to play with a GM who embraces the Rule of Cool!

How Ethan creates a safe table
Alchemy has built-in safety tools that will allow everyone to communicate what their boundaries are effectively. In the settings of the web app, you can list all your lines and veils (descriptions of what these are will be listed next to the option). Once we get in game, I'll be able to see a consolidated list of what everyone wrote, without names assigned. This means whatever you write will be anonymous! Also in game, I will go over how you can use the in-game X card. This is a button you can click that lets me (anonymously) know we're discussing topics that are making somebody at the table uncomfortable, and will allow me to push the game along.
