About the adventure
The Sword Coast is a land deeply saturated with magic and danger, but Phadalin has largely stood as an unremarkable little mining town and a place for adventurers to rest and resupply before moving on to greater adventures along the frontiers. The job is simple: escort a wagon of goods to that quaint little village and meet up with Gundren Rockseeker...What could possibly go wrong? What starts off as a simple escort mission quickly spirals out of control as the players find themselves caught in a web of conspiracies, lies, and desperate power grabs. Will you fight to free Phandalin from the forces that endanger it or will you covet the power of an age long past for yourself? The Lost Mines of Phandelver is a classic Dungeons and Dragons module perfectly suited to new players. Rather than leaving it untouched, I'll be tweaking and customizing it to best suit the party of characters you create.

About me
I'm an actor, writer, and comedian who loves to bring stories to life and collaborate with other creative people. I've been roleplaying and GM-ing for over 10 years. I started playing Pathfinder with my improv, but I've grown to prefer the streamlined ease of D&D 5th edition so that my players and I can focus on the story unfolding rather than math and mechanical crunch. Most of my players in my home games are Dungeon Masters themselves (several of whom are professionals themselves) but I'm also comfortable introducing new players to the game and helping them learn the ropes. I'm funny, creative, and tactical in my approach to every game. Ever since I was a kid, I've always had a desire to create new games for my friends to play and storied worlds to lose myself in, but I never had the perfect outlet for that drive before I discovered the world of ttrpgs.

Creating your character
We will all be creating characters together in session 0. Players can choose to roll for stats or use Point Buy if they prefer. If you aren't terribly familiar with how to put together a character sheet, don't worry! I'll help you!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to join a Discord server and a Roll20 game
What Ben brings to the table
I like to use character voices and background music to bring a cinematic tone to the games I run. While I typically stick to the Rules as Written, I'm absolutely willing to roll with the Rule of Cool when I think it would be more fun. I tend to run tactical combat encounters that encourage players to think about their environments creatively and do more than stand still while hitting a stat block with a stick.
Homebrew rules
I give players the option to drop one of their stats for an additional starting feat. Potions can be consumed as a bonus action, but if they still use their action to do it, they may gain a more potent version of the effect.

How Ben creates a safe table
One of the most important parts of Session 0 is establishing what my players are and are not okay with being shown at the table. A link to the Lines and Veils document will be posted on the games Discord Server. I also like to check in with my players after each game has ended to make sure that everyone is feeling comfortable and having a good time so that I can make adjustments if the answer is anything other than an enthusiastic "Yes!" We will be playing using discord's group call feature, so while audio is required appearing on camera is entirely optional.
