About the adventure

Natural enemies, four Exalts find themselves in a position where they have no choice but to work together. Whisked away from your life and given an strange task with stranger teammates, can you complete your mission and get home? And if you do, will you be the same person when you get back? You can make your own characters or I can bring a pre-generated character for you. Start at Essence 2, with +4 bonus points at the start and 50 xp to play with on top of character creation. We will use all standard rules. (No Golden Calibration, homebrew, or Crucible of Legend optional rules. Just the bog-standard ruleset.) There are four slots available, and one must be of each of the following Exalt types. - The Infernal is the “demon” and should have some Craft skill - The Abyssal is the “devil” and should have some Perform skill - The Lunar is the “soldier” and should have a military bent - The Sidereal is the “spy” and is masquerading as a Dragon-Blooded, even to the other PCs. As stated above, each character should start with 4 extra bonus points, on account of owing a debt to a God. You can choose why you owe the debt and which god you owe it to, though that will be mostly backstory. Also, all four characters should have a negative Intimacy toward Solars.

About me

"So you want a game, do you?" The witch's voice seems to crack in the brittle air, and her one good eye rolls until it finds your face. "Then you must pay the price..." She cackles as she extends her bony fingers. "But coin is just the beginning. What do you want? Tell me what is inside your soul... Who are you?" Hello and welcome! Gaming is more than a hobby for me, it’s a lifestyle. I first started playing as I was learning to walk and talk as a little tyke, and I’ve been playing, running, and designing rpgs since then. I’ve been running games professionally for about 10 years now, although not on SPG until 2026. I like to run a character-driven, roleplay-heavy story, but at the end of the day what’s most important is the players. If you want a hex crawl, if you want high political intrigue, if you want mystery and murder and danger… let me know! I can probably design content tailored to what you’re looking for. For myself, I love stories and I love gaming! I’m looking forward to getting to run some different systems and explore new worlds through this medium.

Character creation

Creating your character

There are four slots available, and one must be of each of the following Exalt types. Each character should start at Essence 2, with 50 xp to spend after character creation. You also start with +4 bonus points during character creation, on account of owing a debt to a God. You can choose why you owe the debt and which god you owe it to, though that will be mostly backstory. Also, all four characters should have a negative Intimacy toward Solars. Otherwise, these are standard starting characters, made by the standard rules for each exalt type. You are welcome to make your own character once you have claimed one of the slots; otherwise I can provide a pre-generated character on request. This will require some communication as players sign up to establish who is playing which of the four roles, so please both express your interests and also be ready to be flexible. Thank you!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Once you connect with me here, I'll connect with you on Discord and Lot-Casting Atemi. This will use no VTT.

What Ashton brings to the table

I will bring a scenario that puts your characters in a tight spot--then it's up to you to figure out how to get out of it! Once the game is going, I will neither try to punish you nor try to help you succeed. Do your best, make good decisions, and hope for good dice rolls, and things may go in your favor. But the stakes are real and success is not guaranteed! You should expect a balance of roleplaying and action. I'm not a voice actor, so I can't guarantee the quality of my performance. But I am a writer; I like to develop NPCs with a lot of depth and personality, and you can expect to see that reflected in the game. A lot of my storylines involve getting to know the NPCs and navigating their motivations and emotions. I have some cheat sheets I've developed for the Exalted 3e ruleset that I will make available. We will use theater of the mind, with no VTT. There's a dice roller bot in discord we can use for rolling dice, and character sheets and combat will be handled through Lot-Casting Atemi. You should NOT expect me to provide background music. I don't do well with it; my brain processes it as just noise. If you like having background music, you may want to find a playlist you like that you can set up for yourself.

Homebrew rules

We'll be using Exalted 3e RAW, with none of the optional rules in Crucible. Homebrewed abilities and items can be worked out on a case-by-case basis.

Safety

How Ashton creates a safe table

I honor the X-card, which you can present vocally or by typing X in chat during session. You are welcome to elaborate, but if all you can manage is the X, I will heed that and immediately pause the game. At the end of this one-shot session, I will make time to debrief and hear feedback. I like to use the Stars and Wishes format. This story tends toward being on the light and whimsical side, in terms of tone, but there is still the potential for dark events to occur. But when bad things happen, I will treat those events with respect, using the narrative to reflect upon the moral implications.
