About the adventure

The Age of Dawning is an open world, high powered 5e game set at the very start of the rise of mortalkind. The first great civilizations are being made, and ancient monsters yet to be forgotten still dominate this world. You will be playing mortals who will become some of the first legends mortalkind will tell of as you navigate your way through this new world ruled by gods and titans. This game is for any who wish to join! I'm an experienced DM that will assist with explaining mechanics and the custom rules being added. Your characters will be Gestalt, which means that they will have two classes that level simultaneously. There will be other heavy homebrewed mechanics and items unique to this setting as well.

About me

Hi, I'm Jay! I'm a long time RPG player and lover of all things creative. I've been a passionate creator of fantasy universes for over 10 years now, and DMing for 8! I love writing, drawing, and making storied worlds most of all. As A Dungeon Master, I love getting invested in my player's characters and crafting enjoyable experiences for all involved! About my games: The Content: I tend to run games in homebrewed settings, from grand overarching storylines to good ol' dungeon hack n slash. I primarily do 5th edition DnD, but I am versed in several other systems. You can expect content tailored custom to the campaign and your characters- from monsters to magical items, intense combat and interactions with varied NPCs, all tied together with a focus on fun. Inclusivity and Safety: as said, my priority is on fun, but also making sure all our welcome! I run an LGBTQIA+ positive table and use the X card system to ensure everyone's having a good time. Before games are ran I'll go over the setting and possible things that are encountered within in a session 0, and we'll go from there! Quality Online Experience: I run my games on Roll20, create custom tokens, items, monsters, and use several customized soundtracks to run my games, as well as an online discord to chat and have downtime with fellow adventurers! I also use various mapmaking tools to provide an immersive environment. Extra Goodies: Ever wanted a drawing of your character? Well, for my players I offer hand drawn artwork of their character in my campaigns as part of the package experience! After 5-10 sessions to let you experience the world and find your character, I will draw a colored headshot of your character! With all that in mind, I look forward to adventuring with you all! May the dice roll in your favor, and I hope to see you soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be handled one-on-one with me, where I'll assist in the process! Your character will be Gestalt, with two classes leveling simultaneously, and will be made on Roll20. Any race and class from 2014 are allowed, and homebrew can be discussed on a case by case basis. You will start at level 3. Your stats will be using this array, placed where you see fit: 18, 16, 15, 13, 10, 8. You will have standard starting equipment plus 500 gold to purchase anything else, as well as one Uncommon magical item to begin with.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please make sure you have both a Roll20 and Discord account! We will be playing on Roll20 with Discord for Voice chat. included in here will be a link to the discord server, as well as the roll20.

What DM Jay brings to the table

I voice all NPCs and provide fitting music in the background depending on the scenes! You can also expect a plethora of custom items, unique abilities for your character, and focus on story progression. I stick mostly to the rules but do diverge when it fits a particular moment. Expect thrilling and intense combat, and plenty of exploration!

Homebrew rules

Here are the following homebrew rules implemented: -Nat 20’s on skill checks add an automatic +3 to the roll. -Potions are usable as a bonus action. If a healing potion is used as an action on yourself, it restores the maximum number of hit points possible. Feeding someone a healing potion still requires an action. -Short Rests are only 10 minutes. -while dual wielding, you make an additional attack as part of the attack action instead of as a bonus action. -NPCs and important enemies have death saving throws. Most NPCs automatically fail if they are not assisted. -Healing spells that add your modifier add it again for each spell level when upcasted. For example, a 2nd level healing word heals 2d4+ twice your spellcasting modifier, but a 4th level mass healing word will heal 2d4+ twice your spellcasting modifier as it is upcasted only one level. -Natural 1’s on damage-based saving throws are critical hits, while natural 20’s avoid damage entirely. If your class already provides this feature, You can move up to your movement speed to reposition. -Natural 1's on attack rolls against a creature allow the targeted creature to use their reaction to make an attack of opportunity, if they wish. -Critical Strikes add double the dice and doubles any relevant modifiers. I.e, your strength modifier acts as a +8 instead of a +4.
