About the adventure
In the far flung future, the United Peoples of Earth have spread far and wide throughout the Andromeda System. It's a big wide open galaxy and the corner you find yourself in is Nemo Terminal, end of the line. It’s primarily a mining colony, but it holds the distinction of having one of the only hospitals in the quadrant and being as far out into Andromeda as you can get without a ship of your own. Well, that and all the smugglers. Miners, spacers, and criminals alike all find themselves in a grimy little saloon called the Fool’s Mule. It’s not much, but it’s got cheap drinks and cheaper thrills. Times are tough and money is tight…but all that could change in an instant because tonight, you’re in the right place at the right time….or possibly the wrong place at the wrong time. Fortune’s a funny thing that way. Sometimes your whole life can change in an instant if you’ve got the luck to find what you need and the grit to grab it. But be warned, not all changes are good ones.

About me
I'm an actor, writer, and comedian who loves to bring stories to life and collaborate with other creative people. I've been roleplaying and GM-ing for over 10 years. I started playing Pathfinder with my improv, but I've grown to prefer the streamlined ease of D&D 5th edition so that my players and I can focus on the story unfolding rather than math and mechanical crunch. Most of my players in my home games are Dungeon Masters themselves (several of whom are professionals themselves) but I'm also comfortable introducing new players to the game and helping them learn the ropes. I'm funny, creative, and tactical in my approach to every game. Ever since I was a kid, I've always had a desire to create new games for my friends to play and storied worlds to lose myself in, but I never had the perfect outlet for that drive before I discovered the world of ttrpgs.

Creating your character
We will be creating level 1 characters together during session 0. Players can either use the standard Point Buy system or they may choose stats from a shared pool that we roll as a group. Players will also have the option of dumping one of their stats by 4 to start with an additional feat. This is not set in the Star Wars universe, so you will be choosing from a more limited pool of playable species. Lastly, players should keep the following 3 questions in mind: What am I doing all the way out on Nemo Terminal? What’s making me desperate enough to do something dangerous? What brought me to a crappy little saloon like the Fool’s Mule? I like to run character creation this way to make sure that the party's stats are fairly balanced, nobody's builds step on each others toes too much, and so that the players have the option to start out with connected backstories if they so desire.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to join a dedicated Discord Server and have a Roll20 account.
What Ben brings to the table
I like to use character voices and background music to bring a cinematic tone to the games I run. While I typically stick to the Rules as Written, I'm absolutely willing to roll with the Rule of Cool when I think it would be more fun. I tend to run tactical combat encounters that encourage players to think about their environments creatively and do more than stand still while hitting a stat block with a stick.
Homebrew rules
At certain points in the game, players will have the option of listing some of their favorite Sci Fi and Western tropes. If at any point any of the tropes provided pop up in the game, players will all be rewarded with Inspiration. The "Destiny System" as I like to call it, is a way for players to play with Genre and be rewarded for contributing to the tone of the game. Please note that even though we will be using the SW5e system, this game will NOT be set in the Star Wars universe, so certain setting specific character options will be limited.

How Ben creates a safe table
One of the most important parts of Session 0 is establishing what my players are and are not okay with being shown at the table. A link to the Lines and Veils document will be posted on the games Discord Server. I also like to check in with my players after each game has ended to make sure that everyone is feeling comfortable and having a good time so that I can make adjustments if the answer is anything other than an enthusiastic "Yes!" We will be playing using discord's group call feature, so while audio is required appearing on camera is entirely optional.
