About the adventure

A gritty and Gothic Curse of Strahd game, featuring Dark fantasy elements and bone-chilling story telling. This game is welcome for all ages and all players, especially those who have never played Curse of Strahd and have been looking forward to playing it. I will note here I as a Dungeon Master actually cannot stand Strahd. Having both played through the adventure and ran it before, I am in a unique place to make you both afraid of him and loathe him all at once. I prioritize player safety, but let it be known that this will be a terrifying campaign for your characters. If you succeed, You will have the bragging rights of having survived Barovia. If not... then it shall claim yet more victims. I suggest you read the tags carefully, because I will be touching on nearly each of them throughout the campaign.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will work with the players at an individual level, and then have a session 0 where everyone can see each other's characters and see how well they mesh, then if they are having second thoughts allow them to respect their decisions after a session or 2. Characters phobias (but not player phobias, those will be addressed separately) will be discussed to maximize the mechanics involved.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The campaign will be taking place on Roll20, and we will be using Discord to speak via voice, and if players are comfortable interact via webcam. We will be using either DnD beyond or Roll20 for character creation.

What Esquire brings to the table

I'm a flexible Dungeon Master that can work with players for maximum flexibility and agency, but must emphasize that all actions have consequences. That is, after all, one of the highlights of a horror campaign.

Homebrew rules

Potions are a bonus action, Flanking rules apply. Flavoring attacks may have different effects on the enemy, depending on where you choose to attack and how. Critical successes and critical failures will be rolled on a table and have different effects.

Safety

How Esquire creates a safe table

Although this is a horror campaign and I am preferring players who want to put their characters through their paces and form interesting gothic backstories, Players will be treated with utmost care to keep from any traumas, that may happen at the table. I take player security very seriously. During the character creation for session zero I will go over any actual phobias that players may have and note what to avoid. We will also be using a Stars and Wishes system to know what players wish from one another and from the Dungeon Master. X, N, O cards shall be used, so if at any point a player wishes to cease playing, they need only say in the middle of the session and their character will be spirited away by the mists, where the player can either break from the session temporarily or discuss leaving and be refunded for that session. I URGE YOU. READ THE TAGS!
