About the adventure

💀 Take sides in a fractious community 💀 Fight deadly alien creatures 💀 Uncover secrets buried deep underground 💀 Explore a world of sci-fi horror with Mothership Forge a new life for yourself on the frontier of space! That's what the recruitment posters promised - plastered in every space-station and trading post. But things have gone very wrong. Terminus Junction is under siege, surrounded by aggressive alien creatures. Tensions are high among the people trapped inside. Factions are forming, leadership questioned. On top of all this, some colonists are exhibiting strange symptoms - migraines, fugue states, memory loss. Can you save the colonists from the creatures pounding on their walls? Or is the real threat already inside? You will create a character and join a crew of spacers. You are scraping by in a harsh future, taking dangerous jobs to make ends meet. You've been tasked with rescuing the colony, and ensuring its ongoing survival. 💀 Mothership is light on rules, big on tension. No previous experience needed. 💀 The characters will be in serious danger, but I'm going to keep things fun and relaxing in the real world. The most important thing is that everyone has a good time! 💀 This is a long campaign. This story has an ending, but there may be more adventures afterwards, if the group wishes to stay together. Tone: Serious and tense, with moments of levity Touchstones: Mass Effect, Tremors, Outer Worlds 🏳️‍🌈 I run a queer-friendly and beginner-friendly table.

About me

Hi, I'm Will 👋 I've been playing tabletop games for 13 years, and have been a GM since the beginning. I started with D&D, but I like to explore new systems, to see the different shapes that tabletop games can take. The games I run are narrative-focused, where the player characters are deeply embedded in the story. Players will interact with fleshed-out, voiced NPCs. They will make important choices, and shape the worlds they are stepping into. Characters will have the chance to develop and define their own story. I first started running games in Uni. For our second-year house, we had a group of disparate people from different friend groups, so I set up a regular D&D game in the preceding months, as a fun way for everyone to get to know each other. It sparked my love of the medium, and it forged lasting friendships. I think there's something deeply interesting about players getting to know each other through playing characters. My tables are LBTQ+ friendly, all are welcome, including new players.

Character creation

Creating your character

You don't need to make a character beforehand, we will do that together during the first session - it is a very quick process. Feel free to give some thought to a character concept, keeping within the vibes of the setting: you are a rag-tag crew, picking up any paying job you can find. You don't need to know the rules of the game beforehand. Mothership is an easy teach. However, if you want to get a head-start on that, you can pick up the Player's Survival Guide for free on the official Mothership website. There are also short videos there that will teach you the rules.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account, which is free. This is the program we will use for voice chat. You will also need either: a mobile phone with the Discord app installed, or a PC / laptop with a working microphone. Please test that your microphone is working on Discord before we start. If you have a webcam, and are comfortable being on camera, then feel free to turn on your camera during the game. I will have my camera on, regardless. Once you sign up, I will send you an invite to the Discord server. I will run the game through the Mothership Companion App. This is freely available on mobile or a web browser. The Companion App is very user-friendly, and we will go through it together in the first session.

What Will brings to the table

NPCs that you encounter will be fleshed out, and will have a distinct voice. NPCs will have plans, which you can help or hinder. I use vocal post-processing effects when it enhances the experience (for example, low frequency range when a character is communicating by radio). I will run the game through the official Mothership Companion App, which has the maps and tokens we'll need. I will share key art when it enhances the experience, but I will largely communicate the scene through narration.

Safety

How Will creates a safe table

At the start of the game, I will provide a shared document where we can anonymously add Lines and Veils. I will explain how this tool is used. This document can be updated at any time, including mid-game if you are surprised by something you hadn't previously considered. We will all be beholden to the boundaries set in this document, and deliberate breaches will not be tolerated. We will also use the X-Card, which can be invoked either vocally or in chat. I will explain how this tool is used at the start of the game. There will be a 10 minute break during the session. Additional breaks can be taken at any time if anyone needs a few minutes to decompress. I am fully open to any discussions of ongoing player safety and personal boundaries. My primary goal is for everyone at the table to feel safe and have fun.
