About the adventure

Two thousand years ago, an empire born of the union between mortal and god brought calamity to the world, incinerating themselves in the process. One thousand years ago, the great mages of the world sealed the planet from extraplanar entities, determined to keep fate solely in their hands. Twenty years ago, those outcasts who still worshipped the gods or who carried the blood of extraplanar beings founded a new city in a cursed wilderness. Today, a sleeping evil awakens and threatens to destroy the world once more. Welcome to Kirat! A blighted land devastated by a catastrophic event two thousand years ago. This calamity obliterated its inhabitants, leaving behind a cursed, desolate wasteland. Today, it is a tainted realm filled with savage creatures, vast deserts, and the remnants of ancient civilizations. Only exiles and beasts live here, cast out from more 'civilized' territories. From this wasteland the city of Al'Kirat has risen, a bastion for those outcast from their homes. Following the world being abandoned by most deities, these people took solace in the tenets of Asmodeus, who promised them treasure and freedom, and helped them to build a society that has become a powerhouse on the world stage. But all is not well, as the ruins of the ancient Anubian Empire are constantly being unearthed and searched, their dazzling wealth and magic fueling Al'Kirat's economy. And in Kirat, that which is dead does not remain so forever. The ancient empire is on the cusp of rising once again, and with their rebirth will follow a war that will rage across Kirat. You will play a group of adventurers, perhaps local to Kirat, perhaps drawn from afar by the lure of treasure. But when the empire awakens once more, it will fall to you to seek out powerful artifacts forged by ancient gods, and wield them in defense of Al'Kirat. Or, perhaps your fate will take you down a different road, and you will find yourself allying with the Anubians, attempting to broker and uneasy peace between both sides. Sands of Doom is originally a 5e campaign, converted by me to fit more with the rules and lore of pathfinder, and is an exploration and survival focused campaign that will see players exploring ancient ruins, unearthing powerful relics and treasure, and doing their best to survive a hostile desert with a mind of its own. This campaign will play from 1-11, with the possibility of continuing further. The following variant rules are likely to be in play, and will be discussed in Session 0: - Battlezoo Creature Crafting - Team+ Feats Pack (With this rule, characters will receive an additional class and general feat at level 1, and then a feat slot at second level and every two levels thereafter which can be used for either an ancestry or archetype feat.)

About me

I am experienced game master of 7 years, starting with dungeons and dragons, and then gaining experience with call of cthulhu and pathfinder, my current preferred systems. I love to create and share stories with others, and enjoy working both with players who want to play a game to win, and players who are looking to share a story and get deep into roleplaying.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur in session 0. Taking place in a homebrew world, certain options are more recommended than others, and this will be available in discord in the form of a player's guide crafted by me. Hellspawn nephilim, beastfolk ancestries, and worship of Asmodeus are all highly recommended for this campaign (though Asmodeus in this setting is acting more in line with Abadar than fully Asmodeus). Most all character options are fine, though uncommon and rare options need to be run be me first.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Characters will need access to Discord and Internet, alongside having a working microphone and headphones/earbuds. Cameras are entirely optional for this campaign, but are always encouraged!

What Jeriko brings to the table

I will provide a full discord server for the campaign, as well as a fleshed out gaming experience using the wealth of tools provided by Foundry VTT. A number of additional modules will be used to enhance player experience. I will also be recording sessions for uploading to youtube over the course of the campaign.

Homebrew rules

Full list of homebrew rules is available in the discord. Most important one for character building is a restriction on multiclassing - Multiclass dedications and their respective feats must be taken in class feat slots. The additional feat slots are meant more for flavor and fleshing out additional aspects of your character's story. Additionally, while not exactly homebrew, the monster crafting system as presented in Battlezoo will be used in this campaign if the majority of players are interested.

Safety

How Jeriko creates a safe table

All players are welcome at my table, though this campaign assumes that players will have a certain level of experience with the system and rules! Session 0 will go over peoples' lines and veils, and an open dialogue will be kept throughout gameplay. My goal is to ensure that players always feel comfortable in my games, and know that they can come speak with me if they have a problem or something they need to discuss. This campaign contains a number of topics as-written that may be lines or veils for players, but these topics will be gone over in session 0 (or upon joining if the game has already begun), and the story will be adjusted to best fit what all players are comfortable with. These topics will be included in the content warnings, but can be removed from the game if you are uncomfortable with them!
