About the adventure

🏙️ Welcome to the City of Splendors Waterdeep is a sprawling metropolis where opportunity and danger walk hand-in-hand. Beneath the polished cobblestones of the North Ward and the salt-crusted docks of the harbor, a secret has been unearthed: a hidden vault containing 500,000 gold coins. You aren't just adventurers; you are residents of a living, breathing city who have been thrust into the middle of a massive treasure hunt that could change your lives—or end them. 🎭 Investigation, Intrigue, and Action This isn't your typical "trek through the woods" adventure. Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is a fast-paced urban caper. One day you might be rubbing elbows with noble families at a high-society gala, and the next you’ll be dodging fireballs in a narrow alleyway. You will take ownership of a local tavern, navigate the complex web of city factions, and use your wits just as much as your weapons to stay one step ahead of the villains. 🎲 My GM Style: Cinematic & Immersive I run games with a "Player-First" philosophy. I love using high-quality maps and ambient soundscapes to make the city feel alive. Expect a "Living World" where your choices have consequences—helping a local shopkeeper might gain you a powerful ally later, while making an enemy of a guild could lead to a midnight ambush. I lean into the "Rule of Cool" to prioritize cinematic moments that make your characters feel like the stars of a heist movie. 🛡️ Who is this for? Whether you are a brand-new player looking for a grand introduction to Dungeons & Dragons or a veteran roleplayer who loves political intrigue, there is a seat for you at this table. If you enjoy solving mysteries, building a reputation in a persistent world, and the thrill of a high-stakes chase, you’ll feel right at home in Waterdeep.

Character creation

Creating your character

🛠️ Character Creation Process When & Where: We will finalize all characters before our first official session. We'll use Foundry VTT as our primary table, but players are free to have copies of their sheets on other platforms. The Technical Specs: Level: We start at Level 1. Stats: You have three options to choose from: Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) Point-Buy (Customized standard) Rolling (We must do this together in the VTT for it to count!) Content: Official 5e content only. This keeps the game balanced for everyone. If you're eyeing something from a specific supplement, just ask me first! GM Review: I’ll take a look to ensure everything fits the Waterdeep "vibe" and the mechanics are solid. Once we’re both happy, your hero is officially "Active" and ready for the streets!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord: Join our private server (link provided after booking) for voice chat and session updates. Foundry VTT: No software purchase is necessary! I will provide a web link; you just need a modern browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended). Character Concept: Think of a "why" for your character. Why are you in Waterdeep? What do you need 500,000 gold for? Technical Check: Please test your microphone in Discord before the first session to ensure we can hear your glorious roleplay!

What Mariah brings to the table

Immersive Atmosphere: I use curated ambient music and sound effects to bring the City of Splendors to life. High-End Visuals: I provide dynamic maps in Foundry with "Fog of War", wall and lighting effects. Style: I lean into the "Rule of Cool"—if you have a creative, cinematic idea, I’ll help you try to make it happen. I use character voices to distinguish NPCs, from the grimy street urchin to the haughty noble. Character Help: If desired, I love to help come up with character ideas, backstories, and I will help you get your character sheet game-ready!

Homebrew rules

I generally run games using Rules as Written (RAW) to ensure a consistent and fair experience for everyone. However, I am open to homebrew/table ideas! If you have a specific character concept, a unique mechanic, or a "quality of life" rule you’d like to propose, let’s discuss it. I consider all suggestions and critiques as long as it keeps the game balanced and fun for the whole table.

Safety

How Mariah creates a safe table

My priority is ensuring everyone at the table has a fun, comfortable experience. We use a multi-layered safety approach: Pre-Game: Before Session 0, I will send out a Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist. This allows you to privately mark topics as "Green" (Okay), "Yellow" (Veil/Fade to black), or "Red" (Off-limits). Session 0: We will spend time discussing our collective Lines and Veils. We’ll establish the tone of the game and ensure our boundaries are respected by everyone. In-Game (Digital X-Card): We use a digital X-Card system in Foundry/Discord. If a scene becomes uncomfortable, any player can trigger it—no questions asked—and we will pause, edit, or skip the scene. Aftercare & Debrief: At the end of every session, we do Stars and Wishes. You share what you loved (Stars) and what you’d like to see more of (Wishes). This keeps our communication open and positive.
