About the adventure

The realm of Drakkenheim is a land filled with centuries of history, conflict and strife. The inhabitants of the continent are varied and hardy, molded by wars and powers beyond our mortal understanding that have shaped the earth around them. This game is not for the faint of heart. Drakkenheim is a dark fantasy world, filled to the brim with ruthless and dangerous beings and forces from beyond its plane. The story that will unfold in this adventure will be deadly, tense and deeply personal. The future of Drakkenheim, Westermâr and beyond will be decided by the actions of the people within the ruined city, and will be dictated by your actions. There is no set path forward. There is no true right choice or side. There is merely conflict, shaped by the priorities and ideologies of the people at the heart of this cataclysmic event. What will you do? What shall be the future you build? And where shall you stand at the end of everything? These are the questions we shall ask ourselves as we delve into the Dungeons of Drakkenheim.

About me

Greetings! Name's Henry :) I've been DMing for about 5 years now, and came to the conclusion I really do adore this hobby. So I figured "Hey, why not try to do it professionally?" and here we are. I'll try to give you the best tabletop experience I can offer, and try to accomodate to your needs. I usually focus on character storytelling a fair bit, so I'll try to bring your lil fantasy dude/dudette/dude-other to life :D (Although I do love me some good combat). So join me, unlikely hero, as we explore a world of my creation!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done through Foundry VTT, using sheets within the software. For anyone not familiar with Foundry, I'll also be instructing you on how to use it and how to find your character's stuff during session 0. We will use Point Buy for our stats, and everyone will start at level 3 with 200 starting gold for equipment and items aside from your class' starting equipment. You will also be given one common magic item of your choice. This magic item should be deeply personal to your character, and have some kind of connection to them as a person. Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding this item as you get ready to write your character. Lastly, Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a very dangerous campaign. This means that you are encouraged to have a backup ready to go in case your character perishes during an unfortunate series of rolls, events or due to the natural progression of the story. Be ready to handle character loss and see it as an opportunity to further the story.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Forge account to log onto the game (https://forge-vtt.com/), and a Discord account to log onto our server so we can call and talk through DMs. You will also require a microphone. Cameras will not be used. A decent PC is recommended, as the effects within Foundry VTT might prove difficult to run on lower-end software.

What Henry brings to the table

I will provide you with a plethora of immersive features within the Foundry VTT software such as integrated ambient tracks and music, fog of war exploration tracked through token movement upon a real-time map with elevation and interactive exploration. As far as my DMing style, I do very in-depth roleplaying for every NPC, monster and side-character to really immerse you into the story. I am very lenient in some places with Rule of Cool, but like to stick to Rules as Written when fitting or already covered by a listed mechanic from DND. During combat and exploration I expect players to be very aware of their surroundings, very tactical in their approach and very attentive to the plot and story beats presented during the story. I will provide special journal entries for each player within Foundry where you can keep track of what's happened during the story, take notes of any developments or important named characters and locations, and will provide a very well organized hub of information so you can always check on important factions and NPCs, in case you missed anything. As a final note, for achievement hunters there will be numerous achievements and quests that can be unlocked during the adventure. Stay on the look-out, and be prepared for some unexpected achievements during the game!

Safety

How Henry creates a safe table

Drakkenheim portrays a dark fantasy world. We will have an open conversation at the start of the campaign to discuss lines and veils. In support of this conversation, please note references to the following are common in this adventure: Violence, murder, blood, gore, cannibalism, and body horror. Degenerative mutations that cause physical disfigurement and madness/insanity. Rats, spiders, insects, demons, undead, ghosts, and other monsters. Natural disasters, large-scale loss of life, civil war, displaced persons, and refugees. Moral ambiguity, social/political manipulation, religious zealotry and military nationalism. The campaign does not contain explicit sexuality, sexual assault, racial prejudice, systemic racism, homophobia, or transphobia. Any inferences to such are wholly unintentional. We will use the Monte Cook RPG checklist and Lines and Veils to keep communication about the topics within this campaign open and make sure no lines are overstepped. If any issues arise, players are encouraged to speak up on it to me through DMs or during the session. We will also hold 5-10 minute breaks at the midpoint of the session (generally the 2 hour mark) to unwind a bit before continuing onward
