About the adventure

This is a beginner-friendly, classic 40k horror scenario specifically written as a head-to-head, solo intro into my Wrath & Glory: Kill Team Icarus Campaign. It's got a higher price tag because its chock-full of content never before seen in 40K, classic 40k horror themes, PLUS it's head-to-head and includes FREE pre-game character creation, FREE session zero, and FREE Wrath & Glory System & Foundry crash course, if needed. You are paying for play time and that's what these delivers. Just you and the GM for 4-5 hours with nothing to distract me from giving you my full, (chaos) undivided attention. PLUS, and this is the best part, after you play this one-shot, if you join my Kill Team Victor campaign you can bring this little space marine in as your PC AND get a 33% discount off your first session. Hey, $5 is $5, am I right? The story is about a derelict ship that gets spit out of a warp storm packed full of creepy crap, corpsey-muties, mutie-corpses and way, way worse. Wanna know how much worse? Belly up to the bar and I'll show ya...

About me

My name is David and I'm a forever-GM. I was bitten by the big, bad red box at age nine and the rest, as they say, is history. I've been playing and running tabletop RPGs for 45 years and it is still my passion. I have also always enjoyed teaching new players and systems. Teaching others to play and GM has always struck me as the best way to be a good custodian to the hobby. Something I became mindful of after owning an LGS for a few years. Over the decades I have gotten a lot of practice writing and running several popular IP based RPGs. I'm particularly fond of the Star Wars, Star Trek, The One Ring & Warhammer 40k campaigns I've been fortunate enough to GM in the last two decades. On a more recent note, I have begun running Forbidden Lands campaigns. I've fallen completely for the setting and the system. Free League really outdid their selves with that particular work. The last few months I have been learning my way around Foundry VTT. I couldn't think of a better way to learn the VTT than run something on it. So, that's a glimpse into my past and a word about my present. As for the future, I sincerely look forward towards meeting more of the community here. See you at the table, David

Character creation

Creating your character

I would prefer the player join me on Foundry pre-game to custom build their own PC BEFORE the game starts. Hours or even days before, players schedule permitting. I have a pre-generated, 270 pt Absolvers Chapter Space Marine Scout PC specifically designed for this adventure, if necessary, or if a player unfamiliar with the system prefers to just dive right in. Barring both those options any player familiar with the system could generate a 270-point Space Marine Scout of any chapter to play the scenario instead. They only need to message me with their build before the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The player will need: 1) A semi-modern PC capable of running web-based programs. 2) A Discord account. 3) A decent internet connection. 4) A mic (& cam, if so desired)

What Fire Mountain brings to the table

Sixteen distinct places to die either a remarkably swift and brutal ORR excruciatingly, long and lingering death, made even worse by Astartes transhuman physiology ALMOST being enough to save you. Five new and unique monsters, never before seen in 40k, who will shoot, stab, staple, maim, perforate, poison, blow to bits, eat you alive, eat your corpse, or occasionally, accidently execute you. Oh yeah, and if it'll make you more comfortable, they'll do it with a British accent, maybe even to some background music, but I draw the line just this side of tea and crumpets. Sorry. In other words: This is a horror story. I built monsters that have all the talents and abilities they need to kill you. My advice is you should probably do your best to kill them back. Anything less dishonors the Chapter. But wait! There's more! Combat heavy, Rule-of-Cool, Role-play (and Ammo) light. So... bring your chainsword. And a good metal file.

Homebrew rules

Yes. New monster abilities. No. They're not any worse than what already existed. They're just not obvious. Until they are.

Safety

How Fire Mountain creates a safe table

There will be a standard 10-15 minute break about halfway through the session. I also maintain an Open-Door tool. Any player can get up and step away from the session at any time. No explanation necessary. No questions asked. Just flash a time-out hand sign on video or leave a single T in chat. After the game I use Stars & Wishes. I find it to be constructive, useful and helpful in building camaraderie and anticipation.
