About the adventure

Players can expect action orientated adventures in a primordial world, the World of Xoth! For those who seek glory and have their names writ next to the gods, the World of Xoth offers armies to unleash, and powerful artifacts to uncover in the pursuit of impossible aims. And those with a desire to explore, to penetrate the unknown and uncover the dark corners of reality, Xoth hides many secrets to discover! A Savage Sword adventure is quite different from the high fantasy environment assumed by most rpg rulebooks. For one, Carousing is the best way to heal up from a tough adventure! In Savage Sword the world is dominated by various human cultures; alien cultures and creatures (usually degenerate survivors of an earlier age) do exist, but are usually found in hidden or lost enclaves far from human civilization. Combat is bloody and brutal, and magical healing does not exist or is very limited. The use of real magic or sorcery is uncommon, and when used its effects tend to be subtle. Sorcerers are almost always villains, tainted by cosmic insanity. Permanent magical items are extremely rare, and never for sale. While Savage Sword certainly has its own set of clichés, it differs from high fantasy in that there is no delicate balance between good and evil. Rather, it is a grim world where might makes right; a world of cruel despots, barbarous fighters, beautiful, seductive spies, ambitious sorcerers and foul demons lurking in the shadows. Individuals within this world are defined by their motivation, culture, personal ambitions and ethics.

Creating your character

A free copy of the rules will be provided with sign up. USR Sword & Sorcery is built on the generic rules-lite system USR released by Trollish Delver Games and is used with permission.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Get on line with your Crypt Keeper (me) and create your USR Sword & Sorcery character. This is a rules-lite system so the process will only take 20 minutes. You will need a microphone and camera to participate.

What Vanishing Tower Play brings to the table

You will get access to the Vanishing Tower Play discord server where you will find: Campaign map, custom character sheets, introduction to the World of Xoth, a copy of the rulebook, and a short gazetteer to get you orientated in the World of Xoth.

Homebrew rules

Various critical hits and dramatic fumbles tables will be incorporated for genre flavor. Novel healing mechanism in the game to fit genre tropes; carousing is the fastest way to recover from physical and mental trauma. Characters divest themselves of 25% of their current wealth and the healing is theirs. Don't blow the Carousing Check though. The fumble table can generate interesting complications and new adventures altogether!

How Vanishing Tower Play creates a safe table

Besides access to Discord, you will not need any other software or account to sign up for to play in this game. I do not use a VTT. The game is played in your normal invite -only video studio (I use Restream). Maps and other visual aids will show up in the game, and I tend to draw my own illustrations of villains, monsters and places to share at the table. Yes, I do voices, but I make no claims to being a professional voice actor. But you do get interesting, motivated opponents to face and fantastical lands to explore. I do record each game session, so you do have access to past game sessions anytime you care to listen to how awesome you were! I can also live stream game sessions with a flick of the switch, so all your fans can see how awesome you are!
