About the adventure

Refugees whisper that an entire city has been dragged into oblivion. People vanish without a trace. And in the fog-choked alleys, unseen powers maneuver like pieces on an infernal chessboard. Your party is about to step straight into the middle of it. But this time, the enemy isn’t just corrupt nobles or back-alley killers. This is the doorway to the Blood War. Prepare to face: Devils who bargain with honeyed words and ironclad contracts—each favor hiding razor-sharp consequences. Demons who care nothing for reason, politics, or survival—only unrestrained destruction. Vast infernal war machines tearing across a wasteland where souls are currency and mercy is weakness. A cosmic conflict where even the smallest choice can tip the scales between order, chaos… or total annihilation. Your blades may break. Your resolve may waver. Your morals will be tested most of all. In Avernus, loyalty is a weapon, and hope is a luxury. You’ll be forced to choose: Will you resist temptation… or embrace power that comes with a price measured in soul-fire? Will you stand against the infernal legions… or play their game and hope you’re clever enough to survive it? This is not a tale of shining heroes. This is a descent into the first layer of Hell itself—where devils scheme, demons rampage, and the very ground beneath your feet remembers the screams of fallen armies. If you’re ready for a story of corruption, desperate courage, impossible choices, and firelit glory… Then step forward. Baldur’s Gate opens the gate—Avernus waits beyond. My playstyle: I like to be able to immerse your ideas of a character and bring them to life in my campaign. When you join, we will thoroughly go through your background and really dive in deep on who your character is, how he/she/them acts, and what is their drive in the game. This type of playstyle really makes you feel like the character is really yours and creates an overall better D&D experience. As a DM, I love watching all these different personalities unfold and mingle within the party. I also try and create side quests for everyone to create an extra personal touch in the game play! Overall, this game is about you and for you to have fun, I am just here to facilitate.

About me

Hey all! My name is Alex (or iceman, it has been my nickname since I was little kid annnnddd maybe I will have you role a history check to figure out why lol) and I fell in love with DnD! This is actually a pretty recent development for me as for my first DnD session was only a couple of years ago. However, once I played, I was instantly hooked! I have always played DnD games in the past like the original Baldur's Gate on PC, Neverwinter Nights, and Divinity. However, it was a new but incredible experience playing the game as a tabletop game and I could not wait to continue playing. There is a lot for me to learn, no doubt, and that is one of the reasons why I want to be a DM. What better way to really dive into a game, learn the lore and to get involved with the DnD community than to run them! I will make mistakes for sure, but I will always prioritize your fun. You may even be able to sneak some moves past my watchful eye but to be honest, I look forward to those moments. I think clever out of the box ideas is what makes this game fun and I will reward you instead of trying to find ways to reverse them. Overall, I am excited for you to join my table and for us to go on adventures. I will do my best to give you an awesome, exhilarating experience every time we have a session. I will throw in some cool homebrew options throughout the campaign and encourage side quests for your characters to help build your background. Lastly, I am always here to listen to any suggestions or ideas to add to our campaign. So without further adieu, once you are ready to join let me know, and we can get started!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level 1 and we will create them through DnD Beyond and transfer them over to Foundry VTT. Session 0 is where we will all meet to go over player's backgrounds, race, class and some other things you will need to know for the quest ahead.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

As you prepare your character for Descent Into Avernus, there’s one thing that will matter more here than in almost any other campaign: Your character needs a meaningful flaw—something a devil or demon can tug on. In this adventure, infernal powers don’t just attack your body. They attack your doubts. Your pride. Your guilt. Your desires. Your dark impulses you pretend aren’t there. Devils whisper bargains into the cracks of your personality. Demons exploit whatever chaos already lives inside you. A strong flaw gives me the ability to craft: Personal temptations tailored to your character Side quests tied directly to your moral struggles Moments where you can grow, resist, break… or rise above it all Unique scenes that spotlight who your character truly is This doesn’t mean your character has to be evil. It doesn’t even mean they have to be weak. It just means they’re human (or elven, dwarven, tiefling…) —with something they’re afraid to confront. Examples you can use for inspiration: A fear of being powerless A guilty secret they’ve never shared A desire for recognition at any cost A loved one they’d do anything to protect Anger they can’t control A temptation toward greed, vengeance, or forbidden magic A past mistake they’d bargain dearly to undo You choose the flaw. Hell decides how to exploit it. Bring me something juicy, and I promise I’ll turn it into memorable character arcs, dramatic choices, and devilishly fun side quests woven into the main story.

What Iceman (Alex) brings to the table

I will have a discord channel up and running for all of us to join into. I will be bringing in music for dramatic scenes as well as visual aids throughout the campaign. I will have us join Foundry VTT for our table top which comes with lots of cool graphics and effects.
