About the adventure

Dragons are stirring across the Sword Coast, and the Cult of the Dragon is gathering power faster than anyone can stop it. Your journey begins in the besieged town of Greenest, where fire rains from the sky and darkness spreads on dragon wings. What starts as a simple battle for survival quickly pulls you into a sweeping conflict filled with fierce combat, high stakes, and choices that shape the fate of the Realms. If you enjoy tactical encounters, dangerous foes, and moments where teamwork truly matters, this campaign is built for you. This game focuses primarily on combat and teamwork, with some role-playing. Whether you love speaking in character, prefer describing your actions, or are brand new to D&D, you’ll always have opportunities to contribute without pressure. Veteran players will find challenging encounters and meaningful decisions, while new players will find a welcoming environment with guidance and support as they learn the ropes.

About me

Hey there! I’m the GM behind Crit Happens Games. I started running games off and on since 2020 and continuously since 2025, and even though I’m still growing as a Game Master, I’ve discovered that creating worlds and stories where players can do just about anything they imagine is my favorite part of the game. My goal is simple: build a campaign that lasts — with players who want to show up, have fun, and make epic memories together. I love letting players stretch their creativity, whether that means training a combat pet, forging legendary gear, or inventing something totally unexpected. If it sounds fun, I’ll find a way to make it work in the story. When you join my table, you’re not just joining a game — you’re joining a growing world that reacts to your choices and celebrates teamwork, problem-solving, and the chaos of the dice.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players can create their character on roll20.net as soon as the session 0 is scheduled or in session 0. Players may use any books they have access to on Roll20. I.e. If you want to create your character in your own vault and import them into this campaign so that you can use a specific book, go for it. Stats will be rolled.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will play on Roll20 with voice on Discord. Please join both the discord and Roll20 campaign prior to session 0.

What Ryan brings to the table

I tend to have a more combat heavy approach to my Game Master style. I will however allow you to solve any problem/combat any way you want. I fully embrace the rule of cool and want you to have a good time with your character and feel that you are in control and making a difference in the game. If you want to craft an item or have a combat pet we can make it happen.

Homebrew rules

I have 3 homebrew rules. 1. my own homebrew rule called Boon and Bane: In this rule after rolling your character’s ability scores, you may manually adjust them using the Boon and Bane rule: Choose your two highest scores and set them to 18 and 16. Then choose your lowest score and set it to 6. Example: If you rolled: 12, 9, 10, 13, 11, 9, you could raise the 13 → 18, the 12 → 16, and lower one of the 9s → 6. This rule is designed to encourage players to truly lean into their character’s strengths and weaknesses. Embrace what your character is great at—and enjoy the chaos when they fail. (If the rogue can’t pick the lock, maybe the barbarian just smashes it instead!) 2. Potion Drinking: Players may drinking any potion as a bonus action or an action. 3. Meaningful Crits: When you score a critical hit instead of rolling double the your damage dice or rolling the regular amount of damage dice and then doubling that score you instead automatically get the max you could roll on a regular non-critical hit and then roll one more set of your damage dice.

Safety

How Ryan creates a safe table

I will have the RPG Safety Tools macros and deck add-on for the game. This comes with some macros that players will enable as well as a safety deck. The macros when enabled will appear at the bottom of the screen and can be clicked on to immediately display one of the cards from the safety deck. I will also have a lines and veils handout for players to have open during the game so that if any player thinks that a line or veil has been crossed they can click on the appropriate macro.
