About the adventure
Welcome to Waterdeep—the City of Splendors, where every shadow hides a secret and every smile masks an agenda. In this campaign, you and your party are thrown into the beating heart of the greatest metropolis in the Forgotten Realms: a place where taverns sit beside noble estates, where crime lords pull strings from the darkness, and where whispers of a stolen fortune have ignited a silent war across the city. The Dragon Hoard is real, and every thief, lord, and faction wants it. The only question is—will you get to it first? This is a game of intrigue, investigation, and chaotic urban adventure—with a home base you can truly make your own. Early on, your crew will gain the opportunity to claim and run your very own tavern, turning it into a headquarters, a business, and a source of constant story. Expect renovations, rowdy patrons, rival establishments, and plot hooks that walk right through the front door. Whether you build a cozy neighborhood pub or a notorious adventurers’ den, the tavern becomes a living part of the campaign that grows with you. Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is perfect for players who enjoy character-driven stories and immersive roleplay. You’ll navigate bustling markets, secret guild halls, noble mansions, and the darker corners beneath the city—meeting colorful NPCs, forging alliances, and uncovering mysteries that reward creativity and curiosity. New players will find an inviting, story-forward game with plenty of guidance; veterans will enjoy layered plots, memorable villains, and opportunities to leave a lasting mark on the city. Above all, this campaign is about shaping Waterdeep—and being shaped by it. Whether you're chasing fortune, building a business empire, seeking glory, or stirring up trouble, the city reacts to your decisions. Gather your crew, guard your secrets, and prepare for a race where gold, power, and danger are always just around the corner.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hey all! My name is Alex (or iceman, it has been my nickname since I was little kid annnnddd maybe I will have you role a history check to figure out why lol) and I fell in love with DnD! This is actually a pretty recent development for me as for my first DnD session was only a couple of years ago. However, once I played, I was instantly hooked! I have always played DnD games in the past like the original Baldur's Gate on PC, Neverwinter Nights, and Divinity. However, it was a new but incredible experience playing the game as a tabletop game and I could not wait to continue playing. There is a lot for me to learn, no doubt, and that is one of the reasons why I want to be a DM. What better way to really dive into a game, learn the lore and to get involved with the DnD community than to run them! I will make mistakes for sure, but I will always prioritize your fun. You may even be able to sneak some moves past my watchful eye but to be honest, I look forward to those moments. I think clever out of the box ideas is what makes this game fun and I will reward you instead of trying to find ways to reverse them. Overall, I am excited for you to join my table and for us to go on adventures. I will do my best to give you an awesome, exhilarating experience every time we have a session. I will throw in some cool homebrew options throughout the campaign and encourage side quests for your characters to help build your background. Lastly, I am always here to listen to any suggestions or ideas to add to our campaign. So without further adieu, once you are ready to join let me know, and we can get started!

Creating your character
When do we start? Before diving into the chaos of Waterdeep, we’ll hold a Session 0. This is where we’ll talk through character concepts, party expectations, safety tools, and how each of your backstories ties into the city. It’s a relaxed, collaborative session—no pressure, just building the foundation for a great campaign. How are stats decided? You have two options—pick whichever fits your style: Roll for stats (twice!) and choose the better array of the two sets. Use the Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). No “bad rolls doom a character” worries here—you’ll start off competent and fun to play. What level do we start at? Everyone begins at Level 1, growing alongside the city as the story unfolds. Where do we build characters? We’ll create characters through D&D Beyond, inside the campaign link I’ll provide. This lets everyone see each other’s sheets, keep things synced, and makes game night smooth. What books/material can I use? Most published material is perfectly welcome! If you’re excited about something unusual, third-party, or homebrew, just ask—I’m open to unique ideas as long as it fits the tone of the campaign and the world of Waterdeep.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before jumping into Waterdeep, please take a few quick steps to get ready for our game: Join our Discord server. All communication, scheduling, and voice chat will happen here. Make sure your microphone is working—that’s the only mandatory equipment you need. https://discord.gg/Hu9JMXYB Foundry VTT I’ll provide the game link and take care of all setup on my end. You won’t need to install anything unless you prefer the standalone client. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. I use animated maps and dynamic tokens, so while high-speed internet is helpful, it isn’t required—just be aware that smoother connections make the experience even better. Camera is optional. Use it if you like showing facial reactions and roleplay expression—totally fine if you’d rather stay off-camera. Create or log into your D&D Beyond account. We’ll handle character creation through a shared campaign link I will provide. Come to Session 0 with a character idea (or a couple). Nothing finalized needed—just a sense of who you might want to play and how they fit into Waterdeep.
What Iceman (Alex) brings to the table
As your Dungeon Master, my goal is to create an immersive, visually exciting, and character-driven adventure that feels alive from the moment you step into Waterdeep. We’ll be using Discord for voice and Foundry VTT for gameplay, giving us a sleek tabletop experience filled with rich visuals and smooth mechanics. I love using dramatic music, ambient soundscapes, and visual aids to enhance key moments—whether you’re sneaking through a noble estate, fighting in a rain-slick alley, or uncovering the secrets of your new tavern. With animated maps, spell effects, and lively tokens, the city will feel vibrant and reactive to your actions. While I’m not a world-class voice actor, I do enjoy attempting character voices (even if the comedy sometimes comes from how bad they are). I bring a healthy amount of humor and light-hearted energy to the table—never enough to undercut the dramatic moments, but just enough to keep things fun and memorable. If my jokes don’t land… feel free to laugh at me instead. When it comes to gameplay, I strike a balance between engaging roleplay, meaningful exploration, and tactical combat. I respect the Rules as Written, but I’m not afraid to embrace the Rule of Cool—if you propose a creative idea that fits the moment and makes the story better, I’ll always lean toward making it work. Finally, I own all the major sourcebooks, which means you’re free to draw from a wide range of official character options. If you have something unique or unusual in mind, just ask—I want you to play a character you’re genuinely excited about.
