About the adventure

Whether you’re a seasoned hero or brand-new to the dice, this beginner-friendly and inclusive table will welcome you to experience the horror and adventure of Curse of Strahd. 🌙 Level 2 - 10 throughout Barovia and we can continue into high-level play after that if there is interest! 🌙 A custom "Boon Point" system designed to acknowledge players for roleplay that enhanced the game experience. These points allow you to further customize your character through things like bonus feats, custom magic items, and more! 🌙 This world is tailored with content from the original published 5e adventure, community expansions like CoS Reloaded and Legends of Barovia, and lore from novels such as I, Strahd. 🌙 Premium digital assets, maps, sounds, and more. You'll enjoy the best possible virtual TTRPG experience via Foundry VTT. 🌙Using the 2014 ruleset for D&D 5th edition, but open to items from the 2024 rules on request. 🌙A blend of engaging role-playing, problem-solving, world exploration, and tactical combat. Once I know what you enjoy most in this game, I tailor it to make sure everyone gets their best possible experience! I've run many campaigns over the years, but this one has a special place in my heart as the first one I ran and grew to be a 2+ year, level 1-20 campaign. Honed even further with a decade more DMing experience, I hope you'll join me for this next exciting round!

My games blend rich storytelling, vibrant worlds, and character-driven narratives to ensure every session feels like a meaningful step in a larger saga. Character creation

Creating your character

We will begin this adventure at level 2, but rapidly progress to level 3 and beyond using Milestone leveling. We'll use the 27-point buy system for ability scores. Anything in the PHB and officially-published splash books is fine for races and subclasses. We'll discuss expectations for the campaign in the first session and can finalize characters then as well. If you know what you want, go ahead and build it beforehand and bring it to that session. If you need a hand, feel free to reach out to me or bring the ideas you have to the first session. I'll be running the 2014 version of 5e, but if you find you'd like to use the 2024 version for something, just let me know and we'll figure out how to make it work. Finally, try to come with some idea of who your character was before this point, what motivations they might have to group up with the party, and what ties they may have to this game world. I encourage every character to have some form of secret so there is something to be revealed over time. If you'd like help tying any of these elements to the game, I can help do so privately so only you know them until you choose to reveal it in-game.

The current party

This adventure has yet to begin. The party will create new level 2 characters and discuss how they came to adventure together before beginning the Death House intro.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have a free account for Discord, which we will use for video chat during sessions, out-of-character comments and questions during and after the session, and sharing game notes and such. We'll use Foundry VTT for battle maps and exploration, but no account is needed for that, as I'll run my own server and you'll just join with a custom web address. Finally, you're welcome to use any character sheet you'd like, but if you'd like access to my DnDBeyond resources, you'll need to make a free account and join one of my campaigns there.

What Brian B. brings to the table

I will provide a holistic DnD experience. That includes full role play as the NPCs, vibrant descriptions of the environment, ambient sounds and music to set the tone, premium maps and art, and a flexible arbitration style that keeps the game moving and fun! Players will have access to my campaign groups in DnDBeyond which will give you access to nearly all character creation options on that site. I will provide a Foundry VTT server that utilizes premium assets from Legends of Barovia, Curse of Strahd Reloaded, and several other professionally crafted DnD assets from various Patreons.

Homebrew rules

Any homebrewed rules I use will almost always favor the players and lend to the power fantasy. This includes things like drinking potions as a bonus action instead of an action, avoiding crits that deal less damage than regular hits, and the Boon Point System that will allow you to access additional character resources such as additional spells, features, and even magic items!

Safety

How Brian B. creates a safe table

Our first session will include conversations to set expectations for the game experience. This includes establishing limits to the themes that'll appear in the game and establishing what we want out of the experience. We will have a system in place for communicating if something in the game is approaching those limits so we can steer clear and keep the game enjoyable for everyone.
