About the adventure

HEROIC ADVENTURES, DEEP DUNGEONS, MYSTERIOUS HISTORIES, MANIACAL MONSTERS, EPIC LOOT! A century ago, Nerath was the greatest empire of the humans. In these days, the roads were safe, the coast filled with trade, and the lives of civilians wonderful. The empire was a great one, founded by humans and welcoming of all. They developed in all manners, from the powerful arcane magics of the original wizard cabals to the skilled artifice of those developing technology to make each day brighter than the last. The people were happy, living each day to its fullest. But, the fall happened. The rulers grew fat upon their success, and lazy, and nepotistic. Poor-minded men led victims, not soldiers, to their deaths in pointless wars, and the stress of trade and expansion finally popped like a balloon. But all of that was child's play to the cataclysm which occured in Nera, the once shining jewel of the empire, where the Immortal Flame was kept. A great darkness filled the skies, a storm of unbridled evil. Lightning and earthquakes attacked the coastal city, its walls shook to their foundations, and by the morning, the entire city was in ruins, or sunken to the sea and earth. But time has passed, the history of Nerath is remembered only by the dwarves and elves who's can remember it, but even they do not recall the true nature of the cataclysm. Regardless, humans will do as they do. Nextport, a bustling harbor, is built around the bay where Nera once sat, the mounds of hills and peeking ruins all that remains of the once great city. Those of the new town only have scant knowledge of such things... but there is the rumor. The immortal flame still hides within the deepest ruins of Nerath, somewhere under ground, and with the Immortal Flame, the greatest treasures of Nera, locked somewhere below. The treasure of Nextport, the treasure of Nera. Within a vault, shut now for a hundred years. That is where your story will begin... 🖌️ A Token with Fresh Art Custom to your Champion! 📺 Visual Effects, Ambience and Sound, and a Full Fleshed VTT Experience! ⚔️ Fight Knuckle Biting Battles with Horrific Foes! 🪙 Claim Cool Loot and Epic Artifacts! 🔑 Explore the Ruins of Nera and Discover its Secrets! You'll get to learn how to play 4e, creating your own champion! You'll face off against mighty challenges, defeat necromancers, explore the feywild, fight horrible dread monsters in the depths of dungeons, and experience 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons as it was always meant to be!

About me

Hii! I'm Vivian. When I was a kid, I used to draw comics and make up characters, and with my friends, build worlds. Since my youth, I've always been a creative, a storyteller, and a bit of a rat. I suppose that I've been running games for well over a decade, though my first experience with real meaty gameplay was just seven years ago, when I ran my first session of D&D for my online group. I could say it was perfect, but it wasn't. That first campaign lasted two or so years, and while clunky and imperfect, it was mine. It was my first true campaign, and with that group, I continued GMing. I became a terminal forever-DM, and have spent far more than a reasonable amount of time studying, practicing, and honing my craft. My shelf of books is overflowing, my collection of wisdom and practiced techniques an armory unending, and my amount of insane nonsensical homebrew and game design documents unsettling. I'm a storyteller first, an artist second, a writer third, and an enjoyer of Little Caesar's Lunch Special (Half a deep deep dish with a 20 oz soda! for just 8 dollars) fourth, but coming in a few places behind that, I consider myself an adequate, if not exceptional, Gamemaster... I mean, my players say I'm the best GM either, and I won't call them liars to their faces!

Character creation

Creating your character

Once you're signed up, I'll walk you through creating your own character! All content from Players Handbooks 1, 2, and 3 will be available. That gives a bevy of lineages and classes to play, all of which are built to fit into the Nentir Vale setting. Also all 'Monstrous Races' from the Monster Manual are freely usable. Ability Scores will be taken using Point Buy or Standard Array to save difficulty, and progression will be XP Based! I'd like to run as close to RAW as possible.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need an account on Discord and Forge-VTT, so we can get in touch, and play our games properly. While using Forge-VTT, the platform I use to host Foundry games, you'll NEED (NEED, ABSOLUTELY NEED) to be on Google Chrome. I also do not like using Chrome, but Forge straight up barely works on Firefox. Oh well! Also, make sure you feel somewhat confident in your typing ability. We do sessions on a schedule, but I host them entirely through text! You don't need a 200 WPM, but if you don't want to type, this game probably isn't for you. Finally, I don't expect you to read and memorize the 4e book, though getting familiar with the rules through provided documents will be much appreciated and provide a seamless experience. The first adventure will be something of a tutorial, running through the core mechanics of the game.

What Vivian brings to the table

Your own custom token (real art by a real person (me, I'm the real person)), special ingame effects and sounds, and even music! Battlemaps, locations, a full campaign built in foundry, the basics you'd expect. The 4e books will be available as Read-Only PDFs, and all content will be built into Forge! In advance of the game, as players join, you'll be free to interact and talk about your characters, get a feel for eachother. If you're not vibing, you can leave no problem!

Homebrew rules

Monstrous Races (Such as Goblins, Orcs, etc.) are not inherently evil, nor instantly disliked by normal folks. Feel free to play one! Certain baseline setting changes have been made to further distinguish Nentir Vale from The Forgotten Realms, primarily a change of the Gods. If you intend to play a Divine Class, we can chat about creating a God or reworking an existing one to fit your ideas. Also, normal Alignment rules. Lawful to Chaos, Good to Evil.

Safety

How Vivian creates a safe table

I doubt we'll be going above any content beyond PG 13. Still, the X card will always be available! I have an open door policy if any player wants to talk about content they don't wish to see or situations they had difficulty with previously. Always happy to handle it and will change things if needed. Also, if you have a very specific phobia (Such as Arachnaphobia or Clorophobia) then be sure to tell me in advance so I can politely ask any spiders or clowns to sit out adventures. No problem!
