About the adventure

A city like London doesn’t lack for nocturnal diversions, which is of great comfort to its society of undead citizens, most of whom cannot travel by day. Theatres, bars, cinemas, clubs of all sorts — including their own social club, The Rymer — stay open late into the middling hours of the preternaturals’ day. One category of recreation, however, is normally inaccessible: museums. Closing well before the usual waking of the undead, museums and the treasures they hold remain beyond the reach of the children of the night. Once a year, however, the museums of London keep their doors open for The Late Shows, a programme of events held at various museums and cultural venues throughout the city. Crowded events such as these are a bit divisive amongst the undead — more humans means more prey, but also higher chance of detection and danger. In the few years these events have been running, very few of the preternatural population of London have attended. This year, one of your number, Countess Zaleska, took the opportunity to nose around the British Museum during The Late Shows and, brimming with frustration, returned to The Rymer the following night. Wild with rage, she repeated her story to everyone in the club who would listen; a ruby bracelet, one of her prized possessions she assumed was lost years ago, had been sitting right there in a display case. Of course, there had been too many witnesses milling about for her to do anything about retrieving her lost property then, and even if she went to the museum and demanded it back, the museum famously refuses to return stolen items. But she wants it. Discovering that the museum’s collection is searchable, many of the clientele of The Rymer have taken to treating it as a lost and found box, looking for all sorts of items they’ve lost over the years. A small group of vampires — yourself included — have indeed found lost items in the museum’s collection, and along with Countess Zaleska are planning to retrieve them. Though the Countess has declined to get her hands dirty, she’s willing to provide money and whatever other support the team needs to get back all their treasures. Vampire Heist is a homebrew mini campaign for 4-6 players, experienced or beginner alike. We will play at level 14, your race will be vampire, and you may play as any D&D 5e class. About me

I had the stereotypical terrible first experience with TTRPGs, with an unkind, unwelcoming, and too hardcore table, and figured it wasn't for me. Years later, a partner asked me to play in a game he was GM-ing, and I discovered I did actually love to play at the right table. A few years after that, my husband and some friends wanted to start a campaign, and I volunteered to GM. I was certainly ambitious, homebrewing an entire universe for this first game, but it was a blast and a great learning experience. After a full three-act story and almost four years, that campaign came to a natural close, and since then I've GM-ed another 2 full campaigns, 3 mini campaigns, and a one-shot, as well as playing in 5 other games, including D&D 5e, Pathfinder, Monster of the Week, Kids on Bikes, and Good Society. I've learned a lot as both a player and a GM, and I absolutely love TTRPGs as collaborative storytelling games. My other hat is as a fiction writer, and I think my love of stories is what drives my storytelling in TTRPGs as both a player and a GM. I love TTRPGs as a storytelling medium, and how everyone at the table plays an active part in shaping the story and taking characters on their journeys. Characters are at the heart of my games, and giving them satisfying stories is my priority.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before or during Session 0. You may roll stats with 4d6, taking the highest 3, or by standard array. Your starting level is 14. We will have a Discord server to discuss character creation pre-session 0, and we can also hammer out final details during session 0. You'll have all the help you need! Please use D&D 5e 2014 rules; your race will be a custom vampire race, which we will discuss, and I'm happy to customise based on various vampire folklore and media interpretations as well. You may play as any D&D 5e class. Any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

You will need a Discord account and a Roll20 account.

What Ria brings to the table

At my table, the main goal is telling a good story collaboratively. I will customise the game to what you as players want to get out of the story, and set you up to create the story you want to tell. I'll provide satisfying challenges and do my best to provide the character experience you want to have. Combat will happen, but isn't the point of the campaign; this game isn't for you if you prioritise combat. I stick to the rules as written when I think it makes sense, but I'm willing to bend them if I think it makes for a better story. My table is an inclusive and supportive space, and players are expected to treat each other with mutual respect. Please keep me informed of any conflicts and I will do my best to mediate. My players' safety is of paramount importance and I will ensure a safe environment. We will have a Discord server for discussion outside of game times, as well as for voice/video chat. You are absolutely welcome to use that space for asking for help from other players, or from me, in anything from character creation to rules clarification.

Prior to Session 0, I will send out a consent checklist. If you don't want to vocalise your own topics to avoid, I will share them without names attached at Session 0. You are of course welcome to discuss it further at the table if you wish. If you need to use a red or yellow card in session, you can either speak or write it in the text chat. We'll go over content to avoid in Session 0 as well as expectations for behaviour and conflict management.
