About the adventure

The Crystal Moon has cracked! Magic dwindles and shadows stir across the realm of Olarion. Ancient dragons dream uneasy, kingdoms rally their knights, and whispers spread uncomfortable songs of sorrow and distrust. But a legend tells of six shards of the Crystal Moon lying dormant, each awaiting a mortal champion to take up their light. Bound by fate, our heroes must journey across kingdoms and ruins, restoring the moon’s power before the Age of Twilight begins. Our story is told through the visual and narrative lens of a classic mid-90’s fantasy JRPG, including pixel art, MIDI music, and all the tropes and themes we can squeeze into a campaign! Olarion is a world of earnest heroics and adventure. It is not grimdark, cynical, or subversive. We're collaborating to write a love letter to all our favorite video games from the mid-90’s. This will be an open world campaign, where you can go where you want and do what you want, where your choices impact the world and the events that unfold. It’s a homebrew campaign in a homebrew world.

About me

Hi, I’m Brandon! I’ve been playing TTRPGs for 20 years... well, really much longer than that if you include tiny cameos in my dad's games in the 90's! 😆 But yes, I've been playing D&D since 3rd Edition, and DMing for the better part of 10 years now. I enjoy playing other systems, as well as modifying the D&D system to fit nontraditional settings. I have a degree in game design with a focus on level design, technical art, and environment art. With that comes a passion for mechanics and design, for crafting challenges and encouraging creative gameplay... and also for being surprised when emergent play catches you off-guard. I’m currently running two longform D&D campaigns on Roll20/Discord.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together in our Session Zero. I'll help you craft deep, compelling, and fun characters that fit the tone and themes we agree on and the world that we build together! We will follow the standard Daggerheart rules for character creation, and we will begin the campaign at Level 1. Characters should be created on Demiplane, and subsequently linked to Roll20. We'll make sure to go through that whole process together, too. I can't wait to see what you create!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Welcome to IN THE LIGHT OF THE CRYSTAL MOON, our homebrew Daggerheart campaign! I’m excited to talk more with you about your character and your gameplay preferences, so let’s kick things off! In order to get started, you’re going to want to join our Discord server and our Roll20 game server, links for which are provided here: • Discord: https://discord.gg/GH4Zdq2mJn • Roll20: https://app.roll20.net/join/20399316/H4zvVQ You will also want to create a free account on Demiplane. I can share content with you through their NEXUS portal once we start to get things going.

Plus maps from a variety of other online creators! 💬 Dedicated Discord server for your table only, including Avrae bot integration for ease-of-use and several text/voice channels to capture all the needs of the campaign! 🎧 Immersive ambience and music using KenkuFM bot to stream from Spotify, Tabletop Audio, and more! 📓 Fully functional Campaign Hub via Notion.so, including Player Journals, a Lore Archive, Quest Tracker, NPC database, player resources, and more! 📜 Custom handouts, spell effects, and graphic design elements, made specifically for your character!

Homebrew rules

For now, the only big homebrew rule that we'll be incorporating will be that the game does include the firearms from the COLOSSUS OF THE DRYLANDS Campaign Frame. But we can certainly discuss including others as well. I am VERY open to creating a custom Campaign Frame that helps us really emulate the JRPG vibes in every way possible. But I want to do that with input from the players.

Safety

How Brandon // Arcadelor creates a safe table

We will be using Lines & Veils, and be discussing/bringing that document together during Session Zero so that all players are included. I provide aftercare with an open door policy, and by making myself available for at least 15 minutes before and after every game session to speak publicly or privately. I allow for X-cards to be messaged privately or called out over voice/video at any time. I also prefer to employ debriefing and Stars & Wishes for as many players as would like to engage on that level.
