About the adventure

Welcome to Beyond the Witchlight: Lost Souls & Stolen Smiles, a whimsical and slightly darker in places adventure that begins not with a sword, but with a ticket. The Witchlight Carnival has come to town - full of dazzling lights, strange performers, talking animals, and shadows that smile a little too long. But beneath the cotton candy and carousel music, something is wrong. People are losing things here - trinkets, memories, even pieces of who they are - and the mysterious court of fey, the Tome of Voices, won't easily give them back. This game will roleplay focused and primarily prioritize, character relationships, social dynamics, and personal arc, narrative driven progression and meaningful choices within the Witchlight campaign module. Players will explore enchanted forests, crumbling fairytale manors, goblin markets, living puppet theatres, and tea parties that may or may not end in curses. You might waltz with a fairy knight, debate philosophy with a snail, or negotiate peace with a scarecrow who writes poetry. Combat is optional - clever words, emotional truth, or wild creativity can solve almost every problem.

About me

The air hums like a plucked string. Voices whisper from just beyond the veil of your conscious awareness; nowhere and everywhere at once. Promises, riddles, laughter. A trail of silvered petals leads through the trees, glowing faintly in the moonlight. The forest watches, as if holding its breath. The dice tumble... Somewhere, something chuckles softly - perhaps a fairy, perhaps something older. You shouldn’t follow… but you do. After all, adventure always starts with a bad idea well executed. ____________________ Welcome, adventurers, to Bonty’s Bag of Adventures - where the mischief meets mortal courage and every session teeters between wonder and chaos. I’m Sam, your Dungeon Master and occasional disembodied voice in the mist, running games packed with emotion, quick wit, and that special kind of wild energy that happens when someone actually wins a deal with a talking toad. My tables are inclusive, story-driven, and full of fey-touched fun, open to both brand-new players and seasoned heroes alike. I also run birthday one-shots and beginner sessions for younger adventurers. Expect heartfelt stories, bizarre encounters, and just enough chaos to keep you guessing; because in my games, the Feywild is never quite done with you.

Character creation

Creating your character

I allow and provide materials for pretty much all official 5e content as well as popular and well balanced third party options such as from PointyHat, Kobold Press. Free Session 0: Before the campaign begins, we’ll run a free Session 0 once I’ve gathered a group of players who’ll vibe well together. This session helps us build party chemistry and set expectations for tone and playstyle. Party Planning: During Session 0, we’ll discuss the party’s overall concept, decide on a starting level, and talk through how your characters connect to one another and to the world. VTT Character Creation: Once we’re set, you’ll be let loose on the Virtual Tabletop (VTT) to bring your character to life — from choosing class and abilities to crafting their personality and look. Collaborative Backstories: We’ll chat about your character’s backstory, goals, and themes together. Backstory development is important, as it helps me weave personal storylines and meaningful connections into the broader narrative. Stat Generation: We’ll use point-buy for ability scores to ensure fairness and balance, while still giving you the flexibility to shape your ideal character build. Approved Source Material: All official D&D sourcebooks are available for character creation. Homebrew and third-party content are welcome for discussion, but must be approved by me to maintain consistency and balance within the world.

Safety

How Bonty's Bag of Adventures creates a safe table

The following themes below may appear in this campaign. I've tried to make it as potentially complete as it *could* be but this list isn’t exhaustive nor is it set in stone. We’ll discuss comfort levels during Session 0 to identify any triggers or topics to avoid. Players joining mid-campaign should review these with me. You'll be dealing with the weird, wonderful and horrific in this adventure - from fairies to hags. These creatures you'll meet bring themes that might be uncomfortable to some but are integral for the right feel for the adventure and removing them would rob them of their folklore roots I thrive on using at the table to develop your adventure. If I do touch on sensitive topics that are not red lines outlined in session 0 or ongoing check ins I always do so with sensitivity and to achieve a characterisation or motivational moment. I never throw horrible content in just because. Tabletop role-playing games are meant to be a safe escape, and I take that responsibility seriously. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of discrimination have no place at my table. Violations will result in immediate removal and a permanent ban from all future sessions.
