About the adventure

Step into a world of mercy and no quarter, where every fight may be your last. No Quarter is a quick, deadly, old-school roleplaying game based on a gritty d100 system. Here, combat’s not a grind: it’s swift and often deadly. Death’s not a maybe; it’s a guarantee. This is a game of players who live for tension, gritty decisions, and the vicarious rush of scooping victory out of the jaws of certain defeat. No Quarter, at its heart, is dungeon crawling. Darkened corridors, lost tombs, and lairs crawling with monsters lie ahead, complete with traps, riches, and enemies that will not balk at cutting you down. The Cornered Rats Initiative System has everybody walking a tightrope, making turn order seem frenzied and frantic—just as actual combat would. Character creation skill-based, not class-based, allowing you to create unique characters every time: original heroes, anti-heroes, or doomed adventurers. Victory is a matter of teamwork, clever tactics, and the willingness to risk everything when the dice are against you. If you enjoy the OSR feel of dark dungeons, deadly combat, and high-risk choices, you'll feel right at home. If you're new to TTRPGs, you'll find the rules accessible but the style of play gritty and exhilarating. No Quarter isn’t about winning safely; it’s about daring to press forward against all odds. Gather your courage, sharpen your steel, hone your magic, and prepare for the crawl. There are no prisoners. No mercy. No Quarter.

About me

I've been a GM since ~1996, and I run the DM Lair YouTube channel. I run games because I love providing an awesome game experience for my players (and because being a GM is way more fun for me). My games are characterized by a mix of all three pillars (combat, exploration, and social interaction) and an emphasis on player agency (the freedom to make decisions and to experience the results of said decisions). I tend more toward a gritty game than otherwise.

Character creation

Creating your character

During the first game session I'll walk everyone through the character creation process, and each character will make a few different characters.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The game will be coordinated on Discord. I'll send you a invitation link once you've joined the game. We'll play using a combination of Zoom and Foundry VTT. No experience is required with Foundry VTT; I'll explain all you need to know in a few minutes. Other than that, no preparation is needed. Just bring dice, paper, and pencil.

What Luke brings to the table

I use ambient music, character voices, and narrative descriptions to shape the ambiance of the game. My games are characterized by player choice, hard decisions, gritty combat, exploration, and social interactions.

Homebrew rules

All rules will be explained in the game as we play.

Safety

How Luke creates a safe table

We use breaks and common sense for safety. Anyone can speak up at any time if there's an issue. I as the GM will ensure we fade to black as needed or put an end to anything that may be crossing a line.
