About the adventure

The best dungeons have fun boss battles, exciting hazards, and, of course, awesome treasure. Where Evil Lives: The MCDM Book of Boss Battles has all that plus everything you need to run a lair out of the book in a moment’s notice. Use a dungeon when you have nothing else planned, or build an entire campaign that leads up to a climactic encounter in a lair! We’ve got 22 dungeons in here! There is at least one dungeon for each level of play from 2nd to 20th. Each lair contains… • a unique, action-oriented boss with memorable, dynamic villain actions. • every monster stat block you need to run the lair. That’s 151 unique stat blocks! • a treasure hoard tailored to the dungeon’s denizens that includes an original magic item plus other unique rewards. • a full-color map with links to a GM version that has all the information you need to run the dungeon and a player version that keeps those secret doors and traps hidden. • detailed descriptions of traps, hazards, and NPCs. Some encounters are longer than others. These games allow us to schedule multiple sessions for the party to be able to achieve their goal without sitting through 6+ hour game sessions.

About me

Hey adventurers! I'm Ken, a passionate new GM ready to guide you through unforgettable tales of heroism and tactical challenges. My games blend immersive storytelling with strategic combat, creating sessions where your character's personality shines just as brightly as their battle prowess. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or rolling your first d20, you'll find a welcoming table focused on collaborative storytelling, meaningful character development, and those "remember when..." moments we all chase. As a growing GM, I bring fresh enthusiasm and a commitment to learning alongside my players. What Ken brings to the table

Tools & Resources Virtual Tabletop (VTT): I’ll use a VTT to bring the world of Where Evil Lives to life, allowing players to navigate lairs, combat encounters, and interact with their surroundings in real time. Custom Maps and Tokens: Expect detailed, custom maps for each location, with unique tokens representing both characters and enemies. I aim to capture the dark, tactical essence of the setting, enhancing immersion and strategic gameplay. Content on Roll20: I provide access to relevant Roll20 content to simplify character creation and streamline access to spells, rules, and equipment. --- GM Style Character Voices: I attempt to bring characters to life through some voice work, adding personality and flair to NPC interactions. I use this to enrich the narrative and create memorable characters. Ambient Music and Soundscapes: Music and ambient soundscapes will accompany scenes, helping to establish atmosphere, whether it’s suspense in dark dungeons or intensity in combat. Tactical Combat: My games feature intense, strategic combat encounters. With Where Evil Lives providing intricate lairs and dangerous foes, expect a challenging experience that rewards planning and teamwork. Rule of Cool: While I respect the Rules as Written, I’m open to the Rule of Cool when it enhances gameplay. Creative player ideas that add excitement or tension are encouraged, as long as they don’t disrupt game balance. --- Expectations for Players Teamwork and Strategy: Given the tactical nature of combat, teamwork is essential. I encourage players to strategize, communicate, and adapt to the environment. Involvement and Engagement: From character voices to the rich setting, I offer an immersive experience. Players who invest in their characters, embrace roleplay, and engage with the story will find the experience especially rewarding. Responsive Feedback: I’m open to player feedback, particularly during debriefing sessions, to adjust or enhance the experience as we progress. My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels involved and satisfied with their adventure.

Safety

How Ken creates a safe table

Session 0 In Session 0, we’ll discuss expectations, the tone of the campaign, and individual comfort levels with intense or horror elements from Where Evil Lives. This session will focus on setting the stage for the dark, tactical nature of the campaign and outlining everyone’s preferences for balancing combat and roleplay. Gameplay Safety Tools: X, N, & O Cards During gameplay, X, N, and O Cards will be used for player comfort: X-Card: Stops the game immediately if a topic becomes uncomfortable. Players can signal this verbally, show it on video, or type an "X" in chat. N-Card: Indicates nearing discomfort, prompting a scene pivot or slowdown. An "N" typed in chat or shown on video works. O-Card: Indicates that players are good to continue or escalate intensity, especially useful in combat or suspenseful moments. To ensure privacy, players can also message these signals directly to me. Debriefing Following each session, I’ll lead a debrief to discuss highlights, challenges, and any points that might have felt intense or uncomfortable. This debriefing will help gauge the group’s comfort, gather feedback, and adjust future sessions to enhance everyone’s experience.
