About the adventure
This game is Beginner Friendly, and I'm excited for the chance to teach people how to play Daggerheart. From players that have never touched dice to 30 year veterans that have worn their dice to smooth spheres, I have decades of experience integrating different experience levels at the same table. ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN Ivalice Legends will start the players a the beginning of the War of the Lions, a conflict between noble factions of Ivalice attempting to fill a power vacuum. In this incarnation, the Mists that give Ivalice its magic have begun summoning people from other worlds and timelines, with no memory of how they arrived. This is a game as much about court intrigue as it is about epic battles, as much about delving ruins to uncover ancient secrets as it is about building and fostering a community. Join a band of heroes and take the reigns of fate. You will decide the outcome of The War of the Lions, and maybe discover the secrets of the Mists. What sets this game apart from other Campaigns? - The Witchkey March. This game will be set within The Witchkey March Universe. The Witchkey March is a "West Marches" style game, where multiple tables of players in different games will see and feel the actions of the other groups. It will be up to each group how much and often they would like to contribute to the shared Universe. - Support Between Games. Playing in any of my Witchkey March games will give you access to a Discord server where you can, if you choose, interact with myself and other players in and out of character between session. I'll be broadly available for help, advice or just to chat. Participation in the Discord is free, completely optional and won't affect play at the table. - I Never Run Games on Rails. I've been GMing a long time, and good, lasting campaigns are built by the players. I want you to be invested in your character, and the world. I make every effort to ensure player choices matter and help create the setting.

About me
I've been GMing nearly every week for over 26 years! I've done professional GMing for events such as birthday parties, corporate events and even a bachelor party once. Personally, telling and sharing stories is my life. Everyone brings something totally and perfectly unique to any tale, and I live to see those moments realized. When I'm not playing games, I enjoy designing them (though whether what I make is any good is a matter of fierce debate...).
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
First and foremost, I'm here to make sure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience. I'll be available every step of the way to help with the Character Creation process! We will be starting at level 1. 1. Prior to character creation, players will need to create a free Demiplane account. Link to Demiplane - https://app.demiplane.com/home 2. Characters can be made: A. Working together on Discord *before* the first session, *or* B. At the beginning of the first session. If you'd like more information on building Daggerheart sheets, Darington Press has a video series on the topic: https://youtu.be/nKCcN4B6ZBs?si=jqwRFt7ZjIiMQ9cr Character creation in Daggerheart is quicker than most systems, but you will need to have a rough idea of who you want to play. This is less about knowing what class you want to play than knowing how you want your character to interact with the world. Are you a battle hardened mercenary? A former courtier that was banished for constant... indiscretions? Are you a farmer that became possessed by a demon when you drank a pint of cursed mead? Have fun with it! We will be using any Daggerheart material from the handbook and Daggerheart's The Void.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Same as with Character Creation, if you need any help, let me know! Free accounts you will *need* to have set up before the first session: Demiplane (for Character Sheets) - https://app.demiplane.com/home Roll20 (the platform we will be using) - https://roll20.net/ You will also need a working microphone. Optional Things: A free Discord account (for access to The Witchkey March bonus content and between game support) - https://discord.com/ A working webcam is totally optional but highly encouraged.
What Zen Ferno brings to the table
I do not believe that Rule of Cool and keeping the rules in mind are at odds. You can try (pretty much) anything, and we'll see what we can make happen. I do voices (though how well I do them is a matter of fierce debate...) When the players get themselves into combat (you know the kind I'm talking about), I make every effort to have it be cinematic, intense and puzzlelike. This is one of the things I think is a strength of the Daggerheart system. I enjoy having large metaplots in my games. The world we play in together will be dynamic, with various factions pursuing their goals while the players pursue theirs.
Homebrew rules
I do not currently have any homebrew rules planned. Players will be encouraged to play any Ancestry that's been featured in a Final Fantasy game before.

How Zen Ferno creates a safe table
Prior to the first session, I'll send out a Lines and Veils survey with instructions included to get a sense of the tone the players want for their game. The first session will start with a "Session 0", where we will work together to determine how the characters know each other and how their backstory fits into the setting. The players will have the opportunity to help frame the tone of the game here. During play there will be one or two short breaks programmed in so people can stretch, relax, etc. The game will also have an Open Door policy, where players are always free to step away for whatever reason, without judgement. I only ask that if you do step away, make sure I'm aware! And finally, games will always end with a short debriefing, where I will solicit feedback (what you liked, what you didn't), and give players time to unpack anything in the session they'd like to discuss.
