About the adventure

Skulking. Lying in wait. Frozen to the core, but ever watching. Patiently. Hungrily. Violently. In the White Wastes of Norvolost, trouble stirs! An Arcane and Archaeological Outpost has gone silent, cutting off all communication with their nearest settlements. Storms and distance make the frontier harsh enough, but what the researchers uncovered beneath the ice has silenced them far more completely. Once they were scholars, seekers of knowledge, and soldiers on the worst duty assignment in all of Kaelorr. But now…? You are not the first to hear the call. Reinforcements from the Sun Empire are already on the way. Other scavengers circle like carrion birds. If you dare venture into the blizzard, you must move quickly: will you claim the outpost’s secrets for yourself, or be consumed by them? This game is an open-world campaign, where your choices make meaningful impacts on the world around you. It’s a homebrew campaign within a custom Campaign Frame. Tone: Arctic Exploration meets Cosmic Horror Bleak Survival Paranoia & Suspicion Claustrophobic Isolation Pulp Adventure and Otherworldly Dread Themes: Man vs. Nature Isolation & Madness Ancient Terrors Corruption of Knowledge Predator & Prey Touchstones: The Thing, Dead Space, At the Mountains of Madness, Shackleton’s failed expedition, the Donner party The game will be balanced between roleplay, combat, and exploration, all in service of the collaborative narrative and tuned to the group's preferences. There will be opportunities for grand adventure, exciting monster hunts, thrilling action, cosmic horror, and political intrigue. This campaign will be a short campaign, most likely spanning levels 1-4. This game is 18+, beginner-friendly, and inclusive.

About me

Hi, I’m Brandon! I’ve been playing TTRPGs for 20 years... well, really much longer than that if you include tiny cameos in my dad's games in the 90's! 😆 But yes, I've been playing D&D since 3rd Edition, and DMing for the better part of 10 years now. I enjoy playing other systems, as well as modifying the D&D system to fit nontraditional settings. I have a degree in game design with a focus on level design, technical art, and environment art. With that comes a passion for mechanics and design, for crafting challenges and encouraging creative gameplay... and also for being surprised when emergent play catches you off-guard. I’m currently running two longform D&D campaigns on Roll20/Discord.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during our paid Session Zero, where I will help you craft deep, compelling, and fun characters that fit the tone and themes we agree on and the world that we build together. We will follow the standard Daggerheart rules for character creation, and we will begin the campaign at Level 1. Characters should be created on Demiplane, and subsequently linked to Roll20.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Welcome to The Hunger Beneath Frostbell Station, our homebrew Daggerheart campaign! I’m excited to talk more with you about your character and your gameplay preferences, so let’s kick things off! In order to get started, you’re going to want to join our Discord server and our Roll20 game server, links for which are provided here: • Discord: https://discord.gg/xnbgmwayjF • Roll20: https://app.roll20.net/join/20289115/FPuoZg You will also want to create a free account on Demiplane. I can share content with you through their NEXUS portal once we start to get things going.

Plus maps from a variety of other online creators! 💬 Dedicated Discord server for your table only, including Avrae bot integration for ease-of-use and several text/voice channels to capture all the needs of the campaign! 🎧 Immersive ambience and music using KenkuFM bot to stream from Spotify, Tabletop Audio, and more! 📓 Fully functional Campaign Hub via Notion.so, including Player Journals, a Lore Archive, Quest Tracker, NPC database, player resources, and more! 📜 Custom handouts, spell effects, and graphic design elements, made specifically for your character!

Homebrew rules

For now, we will not be using any specific homebrew rules for PCs and just playing Daggerheart as its base game. Several adversaries will be homebrewed or reskinned to fit the specific setting, tone, and events of our story. We will be open to reflavoring existing rules and game elements to fit the setting. And adopting some additional custom mechanics as they come up within our Campaign Frame.

Safety

How Brandon // Arcade Abyssal creates a safe table

We will be using Lines & Veils, and be discussing/bringing that document together during Session Zero so that all players are included. I provide aftercare with an open door policy, and by making myself available for at least 15 minutes before and after every game session to speak publicly or privately. I allow for X-cards to be messaged privately or called out over voice/video at any time. I also prefer to employ debriefing and Stars & Wishes for as many players as would like to engage on that level.
