About the adventure

Saviours of the Universe! Take to the stars with this D&D 5th edition campaign. Prepare for liftoff! Welcome to a high-fantasy, high-stakes Dungeons & Dragons 5e campaign that begins at Spelljammer Academy, where raw recruits become starfaring adventurers, and leads into the Light of Xaryxis, a full-blown space opera across the cosmos. Start as fresh cadets in a mysterious academy orbiting above Toril, training to survive the perils of Wildspace and the Astral Sea. From drills and daring missions to political intrigue and magical anomalies we'll start off with a quick jaunt between levels 1 and 5. But peace never lasts. A cosmic threat looms, and soon you’ll be charting courses through shattered moons, battling astral monstrosities, forging uneasy alliances with alien empires, and facing a galactic extinction event with the fate of worlds in your hands. This story will revolve around your quest to save your home world from an attack by an imperial empire of astral elves. Without your intervention, your whole planet will be drained of energy and left a cold, lifeless husk. During the adventure, you will encounter many space-dwelling monsters and uniquely quirky NPCs. Expect daring battles, surreal exploration, and character-driven storytelling with some campy sci-fi flair. Whether you’re a Spelljammer veteran or new to the setting, this campaign is built to be welcoming, fast-paced, and full of wild, unexpected fun. New players welcome. Dice, wit, and courage required. The stars await. Check out this campaign primer document for more information on what makes Spelljammer different from the typical D&D setting; https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/r5ucnZ65PWH8

About me

With nearly 4k hours logged into Roll20 and a number of adventures under my belt, I am an experienced DM who enjoys designing engaging sessions and building a joint story. I got introduced to D&D via liveplay podcasts and enjoying other ttrpg's with friends. As friends began moving away from our city we began adding online boardgames to our rotation and eventually I was introduced to 5e through joining several games. Eventually I took the plunge and began DM'ing for groups or friends then eventually groups of strangers met on LFG forums.

Character creation

Creating your character

The Characters will be built either on Roll20 or Dndbeyond (using the Beyond20 addon), You can use the Charactermancer or edit sheets manually. Players can use either Standard Array or Pointbuy for stat distribution. Players should provide a backstory to tie their PCs into the world. Some common prompts are: -What connections does your character have to the world? (Family, organizations, enemies, etc) -Why are you adventuring? -What goal does your character have for the long-term? Short-term? 3 or 4 sentences answering these questions would be appropriate. (Though the more information you give the DM, the more hooks to your backstory can appear in the adventure👀). If you are unfamiliar with Roll20 I have a short guide with links to youtube videos in the Discord server, and I'm always happy to answer questions, aiming to get back to players in a timely manner. Because I include a fair number of homebrew items in my games, I suggest that character sheets be made on Roll20 unless you are confident enough with using Dndbeyond to edit homebrew items as needed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a desktop or laptop computer with a microphone for communicating through Discord voice chat. If there is feedback from your monitors you'll be asked to get some headphones or earbuds or go push-to-talk on discord to assure that it doesn't detract from the gaming experience of the rest of the party. You'll need an account with Discord and an account with Roll20 (both are free). New players are definitely welcome, I just ask you do your best to read and understand the features of your class and race, and don't hesitate to message me so we can make sure we are on the same page! What Hugo brings to the table

Access to any published character content on Roll20, advanced use of API scripts and macros to expedite combat and provide other quality-of-life or immersion-building benefits, DMsguild material, and homebrew ideas to flesh out the campaign. Ambient playlists suited to where the party is at, high-quality maps.

Homebrew rules

- Flavor is free - Pointbuy or Standard Array for stat generation - Components for spells are only significant if they have a gold cost attached (e.g., Revivify). - Roll OR take avg HP on levelup. You may reroll 1's. - Flanking grants a flat +2 to melee attack rolls - Some homebrew might be ok. Just DM it to me for review. - Unearthed Arcana (including playtest material) and any homebrew needs to be approved before use. - setting specific feats, backgrounds, etc should be approved before use. - For low level campaigns please ask before using a race with an innate fly speed - Optional class features from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything are all valid **for 2014 PHB classes** - Gritty Realism rules for resting; Short rest is 1 night's rest, Long Rest is 5 days in a safe place. - DM/heroic Inspiration is something I hand out for good roleplay, making me laugh ingame, and generally being a good team player. BEFORE you make a roll, announce that you will be using your DM inspiration to roll with advantage on an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. - This is the doc I use for BASE magic item prices: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8XAiXpOfz9cMWt1RTBicmpmUDg/view?resourcekey=0-ceHUken0_UhQ3Apa6g4SJA - Expanded spell lists for Warlocks and Sorcerors can be added to known spells. - Please ask in advance before multi-classing so we can work on a story reason to justify it. (Multiclassing is an optional rule in 5e) **Banned at the table:** - "Silvery Barbs" spell - No spells with "conjure" in the name. Conjure Barrage is the except - Shadar-Kai - Twilight & Peace Clerics - Evil aligned characters

Safety

How Hugo creates a safe table

Professional and simplified D&D5e Roll20 experience. Statblocks, macros, and mods to the VTT to make sure we can learn and move things along in a fluid manner, and provide immersive and dramatic moments. Of course, you should expect a fair amount of violence, as with any DnD adventure. For this and other reasons, games can tend to be a bit gory in description. There may also be times when a survival/horror element will be evoked. As for any other type of mature themes, everything should be relatively tame. I am happy to implement any sort of toolset for players who feel they may have certain concerns about one subject matter or the other, or feel free to message me and get a better feel for the vibe of the table. I want my games to be as inclusive as possible and the only thing that matters is that everyone feels like a part of a team, given the opportunity to have fun and shine in their own right.
