About the adventure

The frontier town of Phandalin waits at the edge of the wilds, a place where farmers, miners, and wanderers scrape out a living in the shadow of the mountains. To most, it’s just another small settlement. But to you, it’s the first step into something bigger. Your journey begins on the road — a wagon to escort, a job to finish. Easy coin, or so it seems. But the frontier has a way of turning simple work into something far more dangerous. Goblins stalk the trails, bandits scheme in the hills, and old ruins whisper promises of treasure and secrets better left forgotten. Here, in this place where the wilderness presses hard against the edge of civilization, you’ll decide what kind of adventurer you want to be. Protector, treasure-hunter, mercenary, hero — the choice is yours. What happens next depends on the risks you’re willing to take and the allies you’re willing to trust.

About me

Well met, adventurers! I’ve been GM-ing for about 10 years now, and in that time I’ve run everything from gritty dungeon crawls to high-stakes space operas. While Dungeons & Dragons 5e is my mainstay, I’ve also loved exploring a wide range of systems, including Star Wars FFG, Daggerheart, Witcher RPG, and Call of Cthulhu (with a few others sprinkled in along the way). Each game system offers something unique, and I enjoy adapting my style to fit the kind of story my players want to tell. At the core, I see TTRPGs as collaborative storytelling. I love helping players bring their characters to life, crafting worlds that react to their choices, and building memorable moments that we’ll be talking about long after the session ends. Whether it’s heart-pounding combat, deep roleplay, or lighthearted shenanigans, I aim to create a space where everyone feels engaged, excited, and safe to play. If you’re looking for a GM who’s flexible, enthusiastic, and just as invested in your character’s journey as you are, I’d be honored to help bring your adventure to life.

Creating your character

✔️ Where: Characters will be created and managed directly in Roll20 using the updated 2024 ruleset. ✔️ Level: All characters start at Level 1. ✔️ Ability Scores: Players may choose between Point Buy or the Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). ✔️ Hit Points: On level-up, players may either roll for HP or take the average value + CON modifier. ✔️ Creation Support: I’ll happily walk you through character creation step by step, either during Session 0 or in a short 1-on-1 beforehand.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Getting ready is simple! Join the Discord – You’ll receive a link to our server where we’ll handle scheduling, updates, and casual chat. Hop on Roll20 – The campaign will be hosted there, and you’ll be able to create and manage your character directly within the platform. Bring Your Ideas – Whether you’re new or experienced, come with a character concept in mind—we’ll refine it together during Session 0. That’s it! No complicated setup, just Discord and Roll20.

What Nikola | Podlox brings to the table

I focus on creating an immersive and welcoming table where everyone gets to shine. Expect memorable NPCs, atmospheric music, and detailed maps that bring the Sword Coast to life. Roleplay is encouraged, combat is dynamic, and the Rule of Cool is always welcome—if it makes sense and makes the game more fun, I’ll find a way to let it happen.

Homebrew rules

I use a handful of light homebrew rules to keep things fun and fast-paced. Nothing too heavy—just small tweaks: - HP potions, as a bonus action, are rolled/as an action, are max value - Death saving throws are rolled privately for more urgency, and you can do actions while down (limited to 1 per turn) - Nat 20 or Nat 1 count for skill checks (as long as it is something that you can possibly do)

Safety

How Nikola | Podlox creates a safe table

I want this game to be fun, comfortable, and safe for everyone at the table. Here’s how we’ll make that happen: Before we start, I’ll share a Lines & Veils doc where you can let me know what topics you don’t want in the game, or only want to see lightly touched on. We’ll have a Session 0 to talk about tone, characters, and themes so everyone knows what to expect. During play, you can use X, N, & O tools—either by saying them out loud or sending me a quick digital message: X = stop, I’m not okay with this. N = let’s slow down or adjust. O = I’m good, keep going. At the end of each session, we’ll do a 5–10 minute debrief/aftercare chat where you can share what you liked, didn’t like, or just talk about the game in general.
