About the adventure
Your captain, Voderick--leader of the Black Gulls--has given you your task: find Vorminclax, a legendary sword said to be powerful enough to slay the immortal dragons. It lies somewhere in the wilds of the west. Get to know the locals: forge unlikely friendships with the ghosts of West Post, the hippo-worshipping warriors of Gwerp, and the astrology-obsessed scholars of Starfall. Protect them from psychic beasts, fanatical cultists and an enormous sandworm--and they may just share the ancient secrets they guard. Gather rumours and follow hunches to chart paths through unfamiliar ground, furthering your quest and uncovering forgotten treasures. Strengthen the bonds between you and your fellow Black Gulls so you can fulfill your destinies together--who you were is not as important as who you're going to be. With fast friends, you might just survive until tomorrow. So, strap on your boots, merc! Break camp and set your course! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Become a Black Gull and you'll get: ๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐ An adventure for newbies and experienced players alike ๐ช๐ง Scenarios that spotlight each hero, challenging their beliefs, showcasing their strengths and turning the screw on their flaws ๐ A world that changes with the playersโ actions ๐ญ A fantastical setting, allowing for comedic and dramatic moments and everything in between My adventures are centered on player safety and respect. About me
A happy-go-lucky actor, improviser and entertainer from Christchurch, New Zealand. Most recently, I was the Trickster in the Dungeons and Dragons show Twenty-Sided Tavern in Sydney. Role-Playing combines my loves of heroic fantasy, games and theatricality to create exciting and fulfilling stories.

Creating your character
Resources for making a character in this setting are found on Discord here -> https://discord.gg/tzmPKkjZ We will be using the 2014 rules for Dungeons and Dragons and using select rules from the 2024 that improve play. We will use Races from the world setting I've created and Classes from the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Players Handbook. Feel free to come up with the story details you like. Once the minimum number of players is reached, we will brainstorm finer details about the team (via Discord!) Throughout the process, I will help players generate their character sheets which I will convert to Roll20.
-Depending on which subclasses you wish to pursue, we will discuss how to make it fit the fantasy and rules of the setting
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Play will be live using Discord (for communication) and Roll20 to play the game. We will use video and audio chat (so a functioning camera and microphone will be required--a laptop/computer's in built mic/cam should be fine!) Nabbing a copy of the Dungeons and Dragons 5e Player's Handbook may be a great help to you as well. Note that we will use the 2014 version, not the 2024 version. They are widely available for purchase in book stores or online or borrowable from libraries.
What Trubie brings to the table
I enjoy using voice and physicality to bring characters to life! Players can overcome social situations with a lucky dice roll or a clever bit of role-playing themselves. I invite players to bring their characters to life in the way that feels comfortable to them. I will also use appropriate music to underscore the mood of adventure as it changes. Combat can fluctuate between tactical sessions on a grided map to using theatre of the mind (imagining it in our heads!) I enjoy campaigns that allow players to use all their skills, so expect a balance between social role-playing, combat and exploring locations. I'm pretty faithful to the rules but will modify them as players come up with ingenious solutions or innovative use of regular tools. I'm very interested in the characters being heroes of their stories but this only feels truly earned if the world pulls no punches. Difficulty can fluctuate between walk-through-the-park to ARE-WE-GOING-TO-MAKE-IT-OUT-ALIVE? And yes, characters can die but I will make the game as fair as I can, while ensuring that if tragedy strikes, there's always a way for all players to keep having fun.
Homebrew rules
We will be using some journey rules to travel across a hex map, inspired by Adventures in Middle-earth. Inspiration will come from characters playing into their own flaws.

How Trubie creates a safe table
Before the first session, I will communicate to individual players about content expectations in the game. This will be the chance to express what you'd enjoy seeing in the game and what you could find difficult. This is to make sure all players (and me, the DM!) are a good fit and we will hopefully really enjoy the story we build together.
