About me

I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons in 1986 by my amazing 5th-grade English teacher, and I’ve been hooked ever since. A lifelong love of fantasy, sci-fi, books, and storytelling turned out to be the perfect mix for a budding Dungeon Master. Now, with close to 40 years of experience behind the screen, I’m excited to share my style of game mastering with players beyond my usual circle of friends. When I’m not rolling dice or crafting adventures, you’ll probably find me mountain biking, hiking, gaming, reading, catching a live rock show, or hanging out with my cat.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Sign up or log in to Discord and join The Mystic North channel. https://discord.gg/EqgXnsqe Here, you can navigate to the Dragonbane section and look through some of the channels that include combat instructional videos and character creation. You must also have an account with Alchemy VTT to play. https://alchemyrpg.com/ Campaign link to be sent at a later time.

What David of the North brings to the table

Through Alchemy and my resources, I strive to transport you to another realm. I incorporate voices, environmental visuals (sometimes with motion), music, ambient soundscapes, sound FX and pictures. I play with a mix of RAW (rules-as-written) and ROC (rule-of-cool), maintaining a balance of the two. Role-play is a top factor in my games, but I also love combat. So, expect deep narratives and NPC interactions as well as deadly light tactical combat. I encourage all types of non-disruptive gameplay. We are here to have fun, tell a story and hopefully, entice you to play again. 🙂‍↕️ If, for some reason, there is a disruption, I will take a break and PM the person to try to work it out privately. If interruptions, either to myself or other players, continue, the person will be ejected from the room. So let's work together for a smooth-running game, ok?

Homebrew rules

Only physical *actions* take an actual action to do on a combat turn. Rolling for tests such as Spot Hidden, Myths & Legends or Bluffing, doesn't take up an action.

How David of the North creates a safe table

Lines and Veils can be filled out on Alchemy when you create your account. The X-card shows up to me privately and is anonymous. We have a scheduled break at the halfway point, but you can leave the "table" anytime you need.
