About the adventure

The party steps up to quell some trouble at the yawning portal they are approached by Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm, impressed by there actions and display of competency he asks the party to help him with a simple matter for which he will handsomely compensate them. The party quickly takes care of this task which entangles them with several of Waterdeeps most influential factions and leads them to the start of a treasure hunt of epic proportion... and consequences. Meanwhile strange intermittent quakes rock the city of Waterdeep along with reports of distortions in reality, seemingly random flareups of wild magic and strange terrors crawling up from below make it evident that something dark and troubling is stirring beneath the city of Waterdeep. Heist of the mad mage is a level 1-20 5e campaign incorporating both the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and the Dungeon of the mad mage modules using the 2014 rules set. Joining the game includes free one-shots every Sunday and a 10% discount on commissions.

About me

I can run any system under the sun. Joining any campaign includes free one-shots every Sunday and a 10% discount on commissions. A forever GM with over a decade of running games under my belt. I started out with a cyclopedia and a dream, in a part of the world where being a "Geek" was considered childish, set out to teach people how to play as a way to get them out of the "nerd closet" and help them make geeky friends. for some one who has been awkward and had difficulty making friends, seeing people come together around my table, let their hair down, and make some real lasting friendships, I was hooked. I've taught friends, family and complete ever since. Code of conduct: 1. This is an all inclusive hobby, I have a Zero tolerance policy when it comes to racism, sexism or any prejudice of any kind. 2. Be on time for the game. If you can't, mention beforehand. 3. Communicate everything, including what's going on with your life (if it becomes relevant to the game). It will be kept between the player and GM. 4. If there are less than 3 players, know the session will be canceled. 5. Don't be a rules lawyer. 6. Don't come online drunk or high. 7. Please give notice if you want/need to leave the game. 8. Be nice, polite, and respectful (or at least don't be a dick), we are all here to play and have a good time. Safety tools: We start with a session zero to discuss characters, lore, house rules, to answer questions and set lines and veils. players are encouraged to discuss these openly but always have the option to let me know in private. I endeavor to maintain a safe and friendly environment and have an open door policy, if you need to leave for any reason then you may do so without fear of judgement, all I ask is that you let me know why, when/if you are able. I try to leave 15 minutes at the end of every session to look back on the on the session and discuses feedback, this is of course optional but appreciated.

Character creation

Creating your character

2014 characters. All Forgotten Realms options are accepted (please ask if you are unsure) Beginning at level 1 with milestone leveling you start with class starting equipment, 1 potion of healing and 1 common magic item of your choosing (no potions or scrolls). For stats you may use standard array or roll 4d6 and remove the lowest (if you choose to roll then pleas do so openly i game, roll 2 columns and choose 1). I don't track or enforce alignment for player characters but please refrain from creating outright evil characters. and the spell "Silvery Barbs" is banned. If you choose to make your own character then please run it by me during or make it with me in the free session zero.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need is a free Roll20 account and a free Discord account.

What Zak brings to the table

Roll20 compendium sharing, full module support, music (royalty free), and a Discord server. I love to weave my players backstories into the main narrative and include them in the world building, I like an emphasis on choice and player agency in my games. I can provide a tough but fair challenge in combat scaled to the parties abilities, so don't worry about balancing and party composition, just make a character that is fun for you to play.

Homebrew rules

1. Using potions is a bonus action. 2. The sorcerer's quickened spell can be used to cast any spell. 3. New characters start at the party's average level. 4. Each player gets 1 consumable, nontransferable RETCON token that can be used to change 1 of their choices. 5. being healed from 0 HP causes a level of exhaustion. Please remember that these rules (except the 4th) apply to enemies and NPCs as well as players.
