About the adventure
New and Seasoned players welcome! Dungeon of the mad mage is an absolute mega dungeon. 20+ dungeon floors of discovery, combat and madness. If you join this, be prepared to commit a long time to this! It is a beast! (My previous group ran for 2 years and only got about half way through!) If that sounds okay to you so far, then please continue... Undermountain is filled with monsters, traps, exploration and various other whimsical encounters that will keep you entertained for a long time. This is what mega DnD stories are made of, if you're up for the challenge! Your character will start at 5th level where fresh from previous adventure, you wake to find yourselves in the Yawning Portal, ready to delve into its depths of despair and treasure! You'll play your way through to 17-20th level where you will meet the sinister Halaster Blackcloak! Try to uncover the mystery behind this merchant of chaos and madness! This campaign takes place almost entirely in Undermountain, so bare that in mind that it will be quite combat heavy, there will be chances for RP.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi, Im Adam, I'm 34 and live in the UK. I started playing D&D when covid hit and we all had to work from home or be off work. DnD had a sudden boom and I fell in love with playing and DMing my own games. For now I stick mainly to pre-written adventures and put my own spin to them. With hopes to develop my own homebrew games eventually. Overall, ive had about 3 years experience as a game master and 5 years as a player. I've tried some other systems like PF2 and Starfinder; but they didnt stick to me like DnD did. I like to run games with a focus on interesting combat while still allowing players and their characters to develop in meaningful ways.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen during session 0. Using in Foundry Character creation or DNDbeyond import. 2024 PHB character creation only. Start with 5th level characters using the standard array. Fixed HP increase. Milestone levelling. Character deaths are very possible and will likely happen; so please have potential backups in mind.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A PC/laptop capable of running foundry and discord. I'll host the discord server.
What Zantair brings to the table
As mentioned in the description, this will be rather combat heavy, I'd say a split of maybe 65-70% combat to 30-35% Roleplay. Therefore, I like to throw my own little style of combat, using the rules as normal but with some additions to make combat challenging and interesting. I stick mainly to Rules as Written but will bend for Rule of Cool if the moment allows.
Homebrew rules
I like to run hidden death saves, known only to me and the player on death saves.

How Zantair creates a safe table
Safety will be covered during session 0. Personally I like to use the Red card system, which will be available to bring on the screen or say outloud or in chat and the game will pause; before moving on past the flagged content.
