The Age of Umbra, In a Veil of Ash & Sorrow
The Halcyon Domain is shattered, broken, and cursed to darkness. Community is all that matters now in a time such as this. Light is rare, joy is rarer
About the adventure
Good greetings everyone!! My name is Richard! An experiences TTRPG game master and former (and future) friendly local game store owner! I have ran dozens of games over the years and never get tired of teaching, meeting, and running games with different parties of adventurers! Daggerheart is new, fun, and unique. I have ran the quick start for multiple groups before and have loved seeing people create their characters and build the world with me. I am excited to be starting a new game in the Age of Umbra of Daggerheart. It is very new player friendly and I am hopeful, and wanting to teach people how to play Daggerheart. The God King Othedias betrayed the Pantheon of the light a hundred years ago. The land of the Halcyon Domain has since been punished by the divine, abandoned by the Gods they believed in. The land is choked in a veil of black and shadow; shattered, desolate, and cursed to suffer in anguish until the final spark of sentience is wiped off of the face of the land. Decaying fortresses, dreadful walking abominations, shadow spawned monsters and things that not even the most imaginative child can picture in their worst nightmares control most of the land. The small bastions that still remain are clustered throughout the land in disconnected communities. All character concepts are welcome in this setting, but may be somewhat flavored and guided based on the overall state of the world. Your characters may come from one of those communities, may have survived in the wilds, or found hidden alcoves of survivors in strange places. Are you heroes looking to find a way to return the world to the glory and light of the Gods, or are you more at home in the shadows that now subsist in the world? Will you venture out to uncover the mystery and darkness of the curse of this Age of Umbra? Will you hunt down the monstrosities, protect your community and the last bastions of existence? Ultimately, will you find a way to alter the fate of this place, or is this all that remains?

About me
Hello!! I am Richard!! A former (and future) board game store owner in the Atlanta area. TTRPGs are my absolute passion and I love every system I have played in different ways. I have most experience with D&D and PF2E just due to their strength in the mainstream, and due to their popularity when I was running my store. I have ran multiple other game systems though, and have experience running D&D5e, PF2E, Daggerheart, SW5e, Star Trek Adventures, Warhammer, Alien the Roleplaying Game, Starfinder, Marvel Multiverse, Avatar Legends, Candela Obscura, and Vampire Masquerades. I have played way more but that would use my word count up completely. I am generally a rule of cool DM who enjoys telling stories with the people at the table and helping them to tell out their character stories and arks. I am always open to learning and running new games and experiences, and am looking forward to stretching my GM muscles, learning more, and playing with more awesome folks!

Character creation
Creating your character
I would love to do a session zero with everyone to discuss the game, the world, and the characters! I have all of the Demiplane Daggerheart content and will be happy to create a group on there and share it to everyone so you all can create your characters. We will be running through Roll20 so the integration is tied together between demiplane/roll20. You make your character once and all rolls will be coded and work perfectly for a Roll20 game! We can discuss concepts, themes, ideas, and I can assist in helping you each craft the coolest characters you can think of!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Roll20, Discord, and Demiplane will be the three applications that we will be utilizing. Roll20 for the virtual tabletop. Demiplane for the content sharing and creation of characters since it is smoothly tied to Roll20. An individual account is required to utilize the integration. Discord for communication!
What Richard B. brings to the table
I enjoy voices, calm haunting music in the background. The story is important. Daggerheart is helpful with combat and character descriptions, and I will attempt to help paint narratives and designs as much as I can. The narrative is why I love TTRPGS and most of games are focused deeply on providing you all with the best narrative possible. Together, we will craft and create the world and the story. The rule of cool is the best, and Daggerheart is fantastic at assisting in the rule of cool! Combat will be engaging and somewhat challenging, but I will ensure to be as fair as possible and helpful for you all to cultivate your characters in the best way we can. I don't want to end any characters without them getting their love in the story, and I will strive to work with you all to craft the best group telling, communal experience possible! Roll20 art for scenery, maps, combat, will be there to assist in imagining the setting.
Homebrew rules
No major homebrew rules as of yet, since the Daggerheart system is new and fresh. I will try to keep as much to the rules as possible, but am always open to homebrewing new ideas, themes, cards, domains, etc.

Safety
How Richard B. creates a safe table
I have a safety checklist I will send to all players interested so that you all can check boxes for green, yellow, or red for different themes. There is plenty of room for you to explain in further detail about things you don't want in the event I do not directly reference it in the sheet. In general. We are here to have fun and play a game. Folks of all creeds, sexual orientations, gender identities, or beliefs are always welcome at my table. Respect is always needed between myself and all players. Give everyone a chance to play, give everyone their time in the spotlight. It is a communal experience, and I don't want anyone to get the main character syndrome. Work together, play together, have fun together!
