About the adventure
Provided: Original CoS map art and creature tokens and 2024 rules. I own the full adventure module on Roll20, so it’s a really nice, plug-and-play experience. I also run ambient music and soundscapes for every session, with tracks for exploration, combat, and various locations. This and my skilled description make for a very immersive experience. I run a grim Curse of Strahd campaign, and I make some tweaks to amplify the tone of the adventure. As written, CoS is a fun sandbox, but many of the characters and locations are isolated and disjointed. There are also some “cartoony” or “cutesy” elements that I change. I don’t “re-imagine” Curse of Strahd, but I do “turn it up.” I connect the characters and locations for a more cohesive plot and a more vivid world, and I also deepen the lore of Strahd’s curse. The original stresses the importance of understanding Strahd’s curse, but in practice it makes little difference in defeating Strahd. I deepen this lore, with clues around Barovia, and make it more essential to completing the adventure. This is a sandbox style adventure, and I love to empower my players. My games run on player creativity, agency, and strategy. I make space for it. I like when my players act thoughtfully on the information they have and what their goals are. I’m less interested in the type of party that simply ambles from place to place, killing whatever they need to on the way. As in any good sandbox, players can run into a high level monster and get in over their head. I like giving the party a chance to get into those situations, and a chance to get out of them. I like my PCs to have a chance to retreat or alter their situation, but there needs to be risk and tension for it to matter. I don’t treat character death casually, but I don’t pull my punches. That’s what Curse of Strahd is all about. I run with milestone leveling, and beginners are welcome!

About me
Hello, adventurer- I’m a calm, emotionally intelligent, and patient 33 year old father. I’ve been running games for about 8 years now. I’m an artist and creative writer, and storytelling at the table comes naturally to me. I love the alchemy of group storytelling, and empowering my players comes first for me. When they’re able to live in immersive, dramatic moments, I get to be there with them.

Creating your character
Starting level is 3, roll for stats, no standard array. We'll create characters during our 0 session. Races, classes, and backgrounds should reflect WotC content. I look out for power-creep and jarring genre mismatches between characters and setting. I can guide character creation and provide pre-generated characters. I'll allow one mulligan if someone rolls absolutely terrible stats and wants a do-over. (optionally, the party could start at level 1- if the players want to start with Death House (an introductory level 1 adventure from the Curse of Strahd))
We had someone leave from a schedule change, but we're still near the beginning of the campaign. We have a ranger, a barbarian, a cleric, and a paladin- it's a capable martial party with some healing. Still looking for a friendly fifth! :)

How Tim creates a safe table
I like to tailor my campaign to my players. I have an optional form I give players before our first session that covers game content and some player preferences. I also like to reflect in Discord between sessions. We can talk about what was really cool, and I'll ask for some feedback on what you really enjoyed, and what you'd like to see more or less of.
