The Castle Von Zarovich (π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ+ FRIENDLY, HIGH RP)
The halls of Castle Ravenloft, the compatriots of Count Strahd von Zarovich scheme and plot...Who will take the throne?
About the adventure
Count Strahd von Zarovich keeps a court of wives and consorts at his side. Like many adventurers before them, his most recent amusements have tried and failed to overthrow him. More than that, he's claimed Ismark Kolyanovich as his bride-to-be. Now, the would-be heroes sit locked in the dungeons, or perhaps taken as a paramour themselves, trapped in a deadly castle filled with deadly relationships. But the heroes are not the focus of this story. Those he's taken as his lovers are. Each of his brides, husbands, or consorts fell under his thrall at one point or another. Has their devotion faded? And more importantly--has their hunger for power increased? This story will explore the twisted, toxic relationships of Castle Ravenloft, as the Count's many lovers reckon with their love for the Darklord--and perhaps each other--as they thirst for power in the face of their new prisoners and their new companion. Each of his court are as dangerous as they are lovely... Who will you be? This game plays heavily with gender roles and gender nonconformity, as well as toxic relationships and abuse. It explores the appeal of darkness and power, as well as the allure that vampires have always represented. This game is a politics-heavy power grab, played over the complex, messy, and dramatic relationships of those imprisoned in Castle Ravenloft--be it by enchantment or love for their dark maker. Players can play as a one of the pre-existing brides or consorts, make their own, or even member of the failed party, perhaps taken as a servant or a consort. This is a grim, dark, gothic tale set in the demiplane of Barovia. So, I invite you to enter Castle Ravenloft, dress in the finest of silks and velvets, and explore the twisted, terrible catacombs of love, pain, and power. Will you take the throne of Ravenloft for yourself? Will you escape and finally find freedom? Will you side with your master and his new bride, as you always have? Will you help the failed heroes liberate this dreary land?

Creating your character
Players will be interviewed in collaboration with the DM for onboarding, and to discuss their characters. Characters will be made on D&DBeyond or Foundry VTT, depending on player preference. Starting level is 3, and any classes are accepted--run homebrew by me first, however. Stats are roll or point buy.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A mic is required (a webcam is not). Discord is required. If you do not already possess a Foundry VTT account, I can help you get set up with one. This game is best for players with experience in Barovia and/or familiarity with the themes and story. However, if you're new to the game or have never adventured in that particular domain of dread, I'll be happy to fill you in and get you ready to play. Characters of any gender identity and/or orientation are more than welcome.
What Nonniee brings to the table
My character voices are not the best, but I will do my best if the players prefer it. I am very much a Rule of Cool fan and play with it regularly. This game will be a low-combat game, focusing on the interpersonal relationships of Castle Ravenloft and the innate complexities and toxicity therein. Despite most of the focus being on the castle and the goings-on of it's residents, this can very much be a sandbox game if the players want--either within the castle itself or throughout the wider valley of Barovia. I run the castle as a living (or rather unliving) place, with staff and a full court sitting at the dark Count's hand, to manage both the castle and the valley, as well as Barovia's interactions with other Domains of Dread. I am all for potion drinking as a bonus action. Death saves are secret, between me and the player in question. I'm homebrewing the general race of Vampire, since that's presumably what all the players will be, and subraces and such can be added through collaboration and telling me what you'd prefer for yours, specifically. My goal is to make this game highly customizable for the players and as enjoyable as possible. I am all for potion drinking as a bonus action. PCs can take as many languages as make sense for their character. PCs start with low-level magic items. Each PC, as a bride or consort, controls a different variety of animal in Barovia. As part of this, each PC gets their own familiar.

Safety
How Nonniee creates a safe table
This game will deal heavily in toxic and abusive relationships (because no matter how cool Strahd may be, he is still an absolute piece of garbage who thrives off of control). Because of this, player safety is of the utmost importance to me. This is a dark game with dark themes. Toxic relationships, gaslighting, and abuse (mainly emotional, sometimes physical) will likely all be present. As part of player interviews, I will go over lines and veils and absolute no-go's, as well as levels of comfortability with certain topics. At any time in-session, the players are welcome and encourage to draw a line and tell me to stop with something if it's too much for them or they are uncomfortable. I also utilize "safe words", that being something they can message me privately in-session if they need me to change the content of what's happening with no-questions asked. My job as the Dungeon Master is to create a safe space for you to explore a world, no matter how dark, and I take that very seriously. I cannot stress enough how little I tolerate any of the following: Racism (including antisemitism) Sexism Homophobia Transphobia Any kind of xenophobia This is a game we are playing together, and you need to treat your fellow players well and with the respect they deserve. LGBTQIA2S+ players and characters are welcome, and this is an LGBTQIA2S+ friendly retelling of Curse of Strahd. I am aware that the Vistani in Curse of Strahd have antizigonistic (negative stereotypes related to the Romani) traits. I am not utilizing these traits in-game (child theft by the Vistani, theft in general, innately being evil or dubious, and similar.) as I am uncomfortable running a game incorporating these themes. The Vistani still exist in-game, but as a group of normal people in Barovia who happen to be able to travel through the Mists.
