About me

I value player expression and choices in collaborative experience building. I like to set the table for company, but what makes it an event is what all the people who pull up a chair bring to the table. I believe "Rule of Cool" is our friend. When it comes to making way for the awesome and memorable, I lean into a "Yes and" style of play. I've run games for all ages and can adjust content to suit younger players I'm also experienced with corporate clients and am happy to tailor a session to your company needs. The games I offer provide opportunities for player skill to shine. Your creativity is not in "the build", it's in how you play. I believe in leaving consequences like injury and death on the table. I also believe that adventures are challenging thins and that can include the unknown and the monstrous. Your choices and reactions to situations beyond your control along with your use of the tools you have in the moment are what really count. If you want to challenge yourself as a player by playing imperfect characters, doing dangerous things and snatching victory from the maw of doom, we should talk. What I don't do: - Adversarial GM or power gamer play styles. - Sexual Content. - Tolerate disrespect to myself or others at the table. - Real world politics or drama in game

Character creation
Creating your character

First level characters will be made available. If you want to make your own, head on over to Shadowdarklings https://shadowdarklings.net/characters#! I highly recommend going for the full random option and hitting it until you end up with a PC you want to play. In fact, having your main choice and 1-2 more ready in case your main is slain is a good idea. Shadowdark can be "old school" when it comes to PC mortality. This is a feature, not a bug. Survival is a kind of treasure. It has more value when it is not a given. Make sure to save your character(s) as a JSON file, this is what the GM will use to load your character into the game. Please also make a token for your character(s). I use TokenStamp2 https://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/, a free resource. Please use a round token. I suggest the red / gold option. It helps the token "pop" on the map. Save your token and prepare to share it and your character in JSON format to the discord. Tokens should be tasteful; no adult content, no political or derogatory content.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need a computer (I suggest using a mouse). A PC gaming type headset mic combo is suggested. You will also need a Discord account. We will be using the foundry VTT, if you have not used it before, it might help to check out some tutorials on youtube. Not required, but it might help.

What Skuliver brings to the table

I'll provide all we need via Foundry VTT and set up a discord for the game. I enjoy doing character voices and embrace rule of cool as well as player creativity. This game will use a "pulp" option which gives players some reroll tokens. I will reward roleplay, creativity with these. I may also give them out for dad joke level humor now and then. Disclaimer: Dungeons are dangerous and that is part of the charm. This scenario, and Shadowdark in general, takes the stance that PC death is always on the table. It's not a plan for the GM to kill characters, but it is a potential outcome. As a GM I will play any hostile creatures as a danger. Traps and environmental threats are often lethal.

Homebrew rules

This game uses the optional "pulp" rules for luck tokens.

Safety
How Skuliver creates a safe table

I will use the Luxton technique. Players are free to speak to any feelings which come up in play. Since this is a one shot, we cannot expect to have deep knowledge of each other's triggers and history. I ask that people bring respect and manners to the table. This means respecting all at the table. It also means as not expecting that a scenario be radically altered, on the fly, based on a revealed trigger. I don't tolerate xenophobia or bullies. At the the same time, old school style dungeons are dangerous and monsters try to kill characters. Adventures in the old school style are defined by the unknown and the fearsome. A big part of the role play in this style is thinking as your character and really putting yourself in the mindset of the person facing these strange locations, puzzles, traps and foes.
