About the adventure

This game is set in an Urban Fantasy world, based on the book series by Jim Butcher. In this world, creatures like vampires, the Fae, and creatures of legend are all real and humanity is nowhere near the top of the food chain. In it, you play as either a magic user, a were-creature, changeling, young vampire or just a human swept up in a world where elder powers reign and supernatural predators see humanity as their favorite herd animal. This game is roleplay heavy and hugely collaborative using the FATE system (Fudge Dice). The feel of the game is a mixture of Urban Fantasy and Investigative/Noir. Characters are created as a group and help to give 'Aspects' to other players based on their relationship and shared history. I have the full suite of reference materials and am happy to work with players to create the character they envision and assist in helping build the group out, together. I do have a standard adventure prepared, which takes place in a fictional college city, however the game encourages collaboration even in the story set up. Should the group decide, a city can be picked or a fictional city made up and the landmarks, supernatural elements, and more are suggested by the players and worked into the fabric of the game, which gives customization on the setting and the plot. So if you're a fan of the series by Jim Butcher or just an Urban Fantasy fan that loves roleplay and collaboration and want to work to keep your city from sliding into supernatural chaos, I hope you'll consider joining my game!

About me

Have been involved in the TTRPG community for the better part of 20 years and have been running games for the past 10. Narrative driven game master with a love of storytelling and collaboration. Most familiar with DnD, however I have played and run a myriad of games from Vampire: The Masquerade to The Dresden Files RPG and am always interested in learning a new RPG system or setting!

Character creation

Creating your character

There will be an independent (And free) Session 0 and character creation session. However, for those who have the Dresden Files RPG guide and want to start thinking about their character, we will be creating characters at the level of "Feet in The Water" : 6 Refresh and 20 skill points (with skills capped at great)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will be running the game on Discord, so a mic and headphones are needed. The tabletop will be Roll20, so an account is needed there (there is a free option). Otherwise, nothing is needed. However, the system places a lot of importance on character aspects/descriptions, so an idea of your character would be helpful coming in. What does your character do? What defines them? What was their upbringing? Knowing things like this would be helpful to building your character in session.

What Stefan brings to the table

I will provide timely sessions that are linked to character backstory and a result of character choice within the narrative, so no railroads! My table will always strive to foster a safe space to play, for both players and characters of any background, ethnicity, race, gender, or sexual preference and will actively make sure the table remains this way. My games tend to lean into the narrative and roleplay and are mostly Rule of Cool and collaborative. I like to run ambient music in the background, but its mutable on a player-by-player basis, as I know this can sometimes be a distraction.

Homebrew rules

I have no Homebrew rules as of now for The Dresden Files; however, I am very amenable to making something up if the party finds a rule nonsensical or burdensome.

Safety

How Stefan creates a safe table

As mentioned above, I want to foster an inclusive environment where everyone can feel comfortable, be it being themselves or playing a character. I always use a Lines and Veils sheet that each player fills out to clearly define content that players wish to avoid and do not allow myself or other players to cross those lines. I also will play the arbiter or mediator in a situation where someone feels uncomfortable. Harassment of any kind, in character or out of character will result in being kicked out. This goes with any instances of discrimination or hate directed to another person. Finally, I have an open door policy and welcome any input or feedback.
