Afterlife Appeals Court
Kids on Bikes | One-Shot
About the adventure
Bad news: you're dead. Worse news; you shouldn't be. (please note that any money from this one shot is going toward making a very absurd short film about, unsurprisingly, Death and Dnd) You aren't sure how you ended up in the afterlife, just that something isn't right. Good news though: that's exactly why the Afterlife Appeals Court is here! You and a group of your fellow petitioners have 36 hours to break out of the court, find the truth of your mysterious demises, and bring back the evidence; all without getting caught! the details of this one shot rely heavily on your characters and your goals for their backgrounds (hence the price.......although if this really stands out for you but that's just outside of your range do PM me and we can see what we can do!)
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Tilly is great at world building, and bringing npc’s to life! She’s super engaging, makes sure her players are involved and feeling comfortable and creates a supportive environment for players new to the system. Overall she was fun and funny and i’m having a great time playing in her game!
Tilly was so much fun! She was patient with us in our first online game, teaching us a lot. As a GM, she was always encouraging us to really get into our role playing, making for some really special moments. Her NPC's were fantastic and she was so quick on her feet in her interactions with our characters. Loved our game with her!!!

How to prepare
There are no programs or accounts absolutely necessary, but you should have a mic and some method of common video calling, discord or google meet. I prefer to play cameras on because it's more engaging for everyone, but if it's a real comfort problem we can talk. You'll need to create your own characters but can expect a time to work through any building issues you might have with me. :) Basically just know what you want for your character so I can make sure you have a fun game!
What I provide
Most of the resources available for gameplay are time costly rather than money costly, but I do use 2 and 3-d maps from talespire and other sources. In terms of style, I am light on voices but do include some, often have ambient combat music to keep up energy during tactical terms, and occasional use a little sound board (from a garage sale on 2016, but still going strong). I love rule of cool. It only goes so far, but I'm willing to find out where that line is. In fact, I've designed campaigns around finding that line, and this one shot is pushing at it.
Gameplay details
The tone here is a pretty absurd caricature, but it is fundamentally based around Death and is set up to allow for backgrounds guided by the players. It's cartoonish, and I don't expect triggering themes, but there will be moments of stress and tension as a matter of course. I generally am able to send non spoiler content warnings before the session, and always spend time during character creation pre-game going through any specific phobias or points of serious discomfort. XNO systems are definitely more of just a message, preferably a dm, because that's much harder to miss while in the moment.

How will character creation work
I'm a big believer in character based storytelling so you tell me your pitch, and I'll try my best to get it rooted in the world. I am always hoping for characters with some backstory for me to latch onto, but stats and mechanics are something we can work out together. KOB is simple, mechanics wise, so we'll just work out the flavor of what the "bike" actually is in this world!
