About the adventure

You can find a video where I briefly discuss the system and the campaign here: https://youtu.be/-JUG_AZumUg This game will use the familiar setting of Kanto for a new, character focused campaign. It will use the concept of social ecology, or the relationship between society and nature, to explore the mysteries of Kanto. It will be an adventure filled with mystery and camraderie; battles and victory. Players will travel across Kanto to collect the 8 badges while fighting the exploitative Team Rocket and the xenophobic Team Sovereignty. We will have a balance between roleplay and combat. Many subplots and characters for this game have been inspired by postwar Japanese cinema, particularly the films of Akira Kurosawa and Satoshi Kon. I have also likewise taken inspiration for some of the villains from the contemporary Japanese far-right ecology and imperial restoration movements. I have run this adventure before and I have polished it to a nice shine. However, I always strive to adapt this campaign to new characters, so you can expect that this campaign will be tailored to the characters in it.

About me

I primarily run Pokemon Tabletop United and Pathfinder 2e, but I enjoy a wide variety of systems. I have run many game systems in the past, but have settled on these as my primary systems. For those interested, I have run multiple long campaigns of Dark Heresy, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Vampire: the Masquerade, and Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. I have a deep passion for Wraith: the Oblivion, and a great interest in running a game set during the Great War. I am interested in running a Shadows of Esteren game, and would be interested in being commissioned for a game too. For my day job, I am an English professor. I have a master's degree in Medieval Studies and have done research on the impact of roleplaying games on the cultural imaginary of the Middle Ages. While I prefer medievalist settings, I also love modern and science fiction settings! At the core of every roleplaying game is a human experience, and that translates across time and space. I accept commissioned games at 25 USD per player, and ask for a minimum 3 session commitment. Solo games can be commissioned at 75 USD per session. I am currently running 7 PTU: The Social Ecology of Kanto games and 1 D&D 5e Temple of Elemental Evil game. Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created during Session 0 and I will walk you through character creation. If you join after Session 0, we will meet separately to create characters before the first session. At session 1, Trainers will begin at level 1 and they may have 1 starting Pokemon at level 5 from any generation of Pokemon; this Pokemon must have the Underdog Trait. If you join after the first session, your trainer and Pokemon will scale to the rest of the party. The game will use the PTU 1.05 core rulebook as its foundation, supplementing it with the changes made by the (PTR) team. Content from Game of Throhs will be used, and will eventually become accessible to player characters. All of these resources will be made available upon joining the game and we will navigate the complexity of these rules together; there's a lot to keep track of and we should support each other to get the best possible play experience. For a list of working house rules, see here; https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jQ1gd_KDeZzT-rOAFMgAJNNoIVN4T3M9XqEBVZ01okE/edit?usp=sharing

The current party

The party is level 2 and comprises: Cayden: Researcher (Pokemon Professor), Hobbyist Coal: Species Ace (Growlithe), Ace Trainer, Fire Ace Dorian: Researcher (Archivist), Duelist

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will require a microphone, discord, and an account on Forge in order to play. I will play with my camera on, but there is no obligation for other players to do the same. PTU is a complex system. I tell players that it is a system that is best learned through experience and I am to provide that learning experience.

How Jordan creates a safe table

For information on my use of safety tools and the guidelines and policies that I will use to run my games, see here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OcZLUMed-FEEBMrhAMItll349NcI3mPFLiHNTGCRD08/edit?usp=sharing This game can either be played with characters as young adults or as children. If we are playing children in this game, and I expect a certain degree of maturity from my players in this regard. Not all of the content in this game is G-rated, and the game deals with themes that are quite heavy and serious. Please ensure that you read the content warnings for this game. I think that playing as children provides us with a unique opportunity to tackle these themes and content in a different, but not necessarily simpler, manner. Playing as children allows us to ask questions about the type of world that we live in, and to formulate critiques and perspectives about it that may be rooted in naivete, innocence, and care. And for the sake of clarity: character romance is perfectly acceptable in this game; sexual content is not.
