Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep

Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Beneath the vast desert of Marquet, something ancient stirs. Forgotten. Forsaken. Waiting. In the bustling cities and lawless wastes of Wildemount, heroes rise—not through birthright or prophecy, but through choice. Called by fate and haunted by dreams not their own, these adventurers are drawn together by a force both mysterious and mournful: a voice echoing from the deep, pleading for release. What begins as a tale of glory soon unravels into something stranger—an unfolding mystery that stretches from the light of the surface world into the dark, drowned ruins of a long-lost realm. The secrets of the Calamity are not as buried as they seem, and in the vast, unknowable deep waits the Netherdeep… a place where memory bleeds, and time forgets. Bound by rivalries, tested by loyalty, and hunted by destiny, the party must decide not only who they are—but what they’re willing to sacrifice. For in the deep, the past hungers. And the ancient sorrow of a fallen champion still dreams.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Additional details

How to prepare

Ahead of the game, make sure to have a good webcam and mic. Also, if you haven't already, be sure to get signed up for DnDBeyond so we can make our characters! Discord will also be useful, as we will be using that for our voice chats and webcams. If you wish to make a character ahead of the game, go ahead and make them starting at Level 3, only races I would say no to are ones featured in Spell Jammer. However I will look over and dictate on a case by case basis.

What I provide

I bring VTT to the table using D&DBeyond Maps primarily, as the integration will be most useful with the adventure book. I also work very hard to perform character voices and make them each unique. I am also a firm believer in ambient music and take pride in my playlists! Syrinscape allows me to make any scene immersive for you, so be ready to lose track of time quick! Combat will be tactical, as I encourage all to use their surroundings to aid them in the fighting. If you think outside the box, there is DM Inspiration in it for you! I work very hard to make the turn by turn drag that is D&D 5E combat more fun and engaging for all.

Gameplay details

First and foremost I want to ensure all players feel comfortable at the table, so we will run a Session 0 to establish expectation for the game, as well as boundaries. I will lay out expected themes and topics that may be touched on over the course of playing, and ask if there are any needing to be avoided. As for our X, N, & O's, during the game you may message me directly with any such signal, and I will immediately accommodate. We are meant to have fun, not feel uncomfortable. This is a safe space for all!

How will character creation work

Of course I encourage any passionate player to go ahead and make their character ahead of Session 0, I am always eager to read through pages of backstories! However, don't be alarmed if you don't have one ready immediately. I am more than happy to go over character creation at Session 0 and even schedule 1on1's with all players to ensure everyone is comfortable and ready! I can also provide a Wildemount Hero Chronical to aid players in creating a character if they aren't super familiar with Exandria.
